An OLED is disclosed that includes an enhancement layer having optically active metamaterials, or hyperbolic metamaterials, which transfer radiative energy from the organic emissive material to a non-radiative mode, wherein the enhancement layer is disposed over the organic emissive layer opposite from the first electrode, and is positioned no more than a threshold distance away from the organic emissive layer, wherein the organic emissive material has a total non-radiative decay rate constant and a total radiative decay rate constant due to the presence of the enhancement layer, and the threshold distance is where the total non-radiative decay rate constant is equal to the total radiative decay rate constant; and an outcoupling layer disposed over the enhancement layer, wherein the outcoupling layer scatters radiative energy from the enhancement layer to free space.

Organic electroluminescent devices

OLED device having enhancement layer(s)

Embodiments related to interlayers (e.g., interlayers comprising a transition metal oxide, a transition metal oxynitride, and/or a transition metal nitride) and associated systems, devices (e.g., photovoltaic devices), and methods are disclosed. In some embodiments, a system for exciton transfer includes a substrate including an inorganic semiconductor. An interlayer may be disposed on the substrate, and a layer including a material that undergoes singlet exciton fission when exposed to electromagnetic radiation may be disposed on the interlayer. The interlayer may be disposed between the substrate and the layer. In some embodiments, a method for manufacturing a system for exciton transfer involves depositing an interlayer onto a substrate that includes an inorganic semiconductor. The method may also include depositing a layer including a material that undergoes singlet exciton fission when exposed to electromagnetic radiation onto the interlayer.

Interlayers and associated systems, devices, and methods

A two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenide layer is grown by reacting a non- or low-volatile source material with a volatilized halogen or halide compound to produce a volatilized composition comprising at least one reaction product. The volatilized composition is flowed through an open chamber of a tube furnace with a temperature gradient, wherein the temperature changes along a path through which the volatilized composition flows through the open chamber of the tube furnace. Where the temperature along the path in the open chamber is in a reaction-temperature range, the volatilized composition is deposited as a two-dimensional crystalline transition-metal dichalcogenide layer.

The present invention generally relates to composition and methods for downconverting light. In some embodiments, the composition and methods comprise an organic material, a nanocrystal, and a ligand capable of facilitating energy transfer between the organic material and the nanocrystal. In certain embodiments, the nanocrystal has a first excited energy state with an energy less than a triplet energy state of the organic material. The organic material, in some embodiments, may be aromatic and/or include one or more pi-conjugated carbon-carbon double bonds. In some cases, incident light may be absorbed by the organic material to produce two triplet excitons. The triplet excitons may then transfer to the nanocrystal via the ligand, where they can undergo recombination, resulting in the formation low energy photons.

Compositions and methods for the downconversion of light

Organic light emitting devices are described wherein the emissive layer comprises a host material containing an emissive molecule, which molecule is adapted to luminesce when a voltage is applied across the heterostructure, and the emissive molecule is selected from the group of phosphorescent organometallic complexes, including cyclometallated platinum, iridium and osmium complexes. The organic light emitting devices optionally contain an exciton blocking layer. Furthermore, improved electroluminescent efficiency in organic light emitting devices is obtained with an emitter layer comprising organometallic complexes of transition metals of formula LMX, wherein L and X are distinct bidentate ligands. Compounds of this formula can be synthesized more facilely than in previous approaches and synthetic options allow insertion of fluorescent molecules into a phosphorescent complex, ligands to fine tune the color of emission, and ligands to trap carriers.

Organometallic complexes as phosphorescent emitters in organic LEDs

Embodiments described herein relate to compositions including bridged bicyclic compounds such as iptycene-based structures and extended iptycene structures. In some embodiments, the compositions may be useful in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), organic photovoltaics, and other devices.

Organic conductive materials and devices

Described herein are molecules for use in organic light emitting diodes. Example molecules comprise at least one moiety A and at least one moiety D. Values and preferred values of the moieties A and D are described herein. The molecules comprise at least one atom selected from Si, Se, Ge, Sn, P, or As.

Organic light-emitting diode materials

A method for improving the operation of an OLED includes maximizing on-radiative transfer of excited state energy from the OLED's organic emissive material to surface plasmon polaritons in an enhancement layer by providing the enhancement layer no more than a threshold distance away from the organic emissive layer; and emitting light into free space from the enhancement layer by scattering the energy from the surface plasmon polaritons through an outcoupling layer that is provided proximate to the enhancement layer but opposite from the organic emissive layer.

In some embodiments, the composition and methods comprise an organic material, a nanocrystal, and a ligand capable of facilitating energy transfer between the nanocrystal and the organic material. In certain embodiments, the nanocrystal has a first excited energy state with an energy greater than a triplet state of the organic material. The organic material, in some embodiments, may be aromatic and/or include one or more pi-conjugated carbon-carbon double bonds. In some cases, incident light may be absorbed by the nanocrystal to produce triplet excitons. The triplet excitons may then transfer from the nanocrystal to the organic material and undergo triplet-triplet annihilation, creating a singlet state of approximately twice the energy of the triplet exciton. In certain embodiments, the singlet state fluoresces, resulting in the formation of a high energy photon.

Methods and compositions for the upconversion of light

In one embodiment the disclosure relates to an apparatus for depositing an organic material on a substrate, including a source heater for heating organic particles to form suspended organic particles; a transport stream for delivering the suspended organic particles to a discharge nozzle, the discharge nozzle having a plurality of micro-pores, the micro-pores providing a conduit for passage of the suspended organic particles; and a nozzle heater for pulsatingly heating the micro-pores nozzle to discharge the suspended organic particles from the discharge nozzle.

Method and apparatus for depositing LED organic film

A logic gate device is disclosed. The logic gate device structure can include a magnetic tunnel junction on a soft ferromagnetic wire to provide a readout.
