A cartridge for detection of target components in a liquid sample includes a sample chamber, at least two reservoirs that can be furnished with magnetic particles, and at least two corresponding sensitive zones in which solved magnetic particles and/or target components can be detected. When a magnetic actuation field of a given configuration is established in the sample chamber, the magnetic particles of different reservoirs migrate predominantly to different sensitive zones. Thus a mixing of magnetic particles can be avoided.

Cartridge for assays with magnetic particles

A cartridge () and a method process target components (T, T) of a sample fluid, for example the detection of cardiac markers in blood. The cartridge () includes a reaction chamber () with a hydrophilic reaction surface (). A physical barrier () on the reaction surface (), for example a protrusion, at least partially borders an investigation region (') which includes capture probes (CP, CP) that specifically bind to target components (T, T) of the sample fluid.

Processing of a sample fluid with target components

A method of detecting redispersion of particles into a solution using for example FTIR. The method including providing a sensor surface with dry particles; illuminating the sensor surface with light along a first optical path and detecting the light reflected by the sensor surface; providing a liquid to a volume in contact with the sensor surface; and detecting the reflected light while the dry particles redisperse into the liquid. The angle between the first optical path and the sensor surface fulfils the condition of total internal reflection. Further, an FTIR cartridge may be provided for use in said method. The cartridge including a sensor surface accessible for FTIR detection including at least one binding area wherein label particles are situated.
