Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a transceiver circuit employing shared digital signal processing circuitry for communicating radio frequency (RF) analog communications signals received by a remote unit in a wireless distribution system (WDS). A transceiver circuit includes downlink digital signal processing circuitry that receives and processes a downlink digital communications signal(s) having a first downlink digital baseband signal and a second downlink digital baseband signal. A first downlink analog signal path and a second downlink analog signal path share the downlink digital signal processing circuitry. The first downlink analog signal path generates a first downlink analog RF communications signal. The second downlink analog signal path generates a second downlink analog RF communications signal. By sharing the downlink digital signal processing circuitry, it is not necessary to add additional downlink digital signal processing circuitry, thus helping reduce digital component costs of the transceiver circuit.

Methods and systems for reducing leaked downlink interference signals in a remote unit uplink path(s) in a distributed antenna system (DAS) are provided. In a remote antenna unit (RAU) disclosed herein, a downlink interference signal may be leaked from a downlink path to an uplink path in the RAU. In this regard, an adjustment circuit is provided in the downlink path of the RAU to suppress the downlink interference signal. A control system is provided in the DAS to monitor the leaked downlink interference signal and control the adjustment circuit in the RAU to minimize the leaked downlink interference signal in the uplink path. By providing the adjustment circuit in the RAU and the control system in the DAS to minimize the leaked downlink interference signal in the uplink path, it is possible to reduce interferences between downlink and uplink communications signals without increasing costs of the RAU.

Reducing leaked downlink interference signals in a remote unit uplink path(s) in a distributed antenna system (DAS)

A protection circuit may be configured for detecting electrical power of downlink radio frequency (RF) signals, and diverting a substantial portion of the downlink RF signals away from a downlink RF interface of a distributed antenna system DAS in response to the detected electrical power being equal to or greater than a predetermined electrical power. The downlink RF signals diverted away from the downlink RF interface may be routed to an electrical load. The protection circuit may include hysteresis.

Protection of distributed antenna systems

An electronically tunable equalizer is provided to a downlink (DL) and/or uplink (UL) signal processing path of a wireless communication unit incorporating a RF filter. The electronically tunable equalizer is pre-configured with a plurality of capacitance states, each representing a specific capacitance. The equalizer produces a different equalizer response for each of the plurality of capacitance states based on a received pass-band frequency signal. The plurality of equalizer responses is provided to the RF filter on a signaling processing path, thus affecting the RF filter's pass-band ripple. The RF filter's pass-band ripple is measured for each of the plurality of equalizer responses to determine a desired pass-band ripple. By configuring the electronically tunable equalizer to the capacitance state that produced the desired pass-band ripple, a ceramic RF filter may be used in the wireless communication unit for the benefit of lower cost and size, with reduced pass-band ripple.
