A cable end connector and the method of making the same are disclosed. The connector includes a first contact module, a second contact module, a central grounding unit, a grounding means, and a shielding shell electrically connecting with the grounding means. The first contact module includes first contacts and a first insulator retaining the first contacts. The first insulator has a first tongue section and a first assembling section. The second contact module includes second contacts and a second insulator retaining the second contacts. The second insulator has a second tongue section and a second assembling section. The shielding shell has a front shell and a rear shell partially overlapped on the front shell. The front shell substantially encloses the first and the second tongue sections of the first and the second contact modules, the central grounding unit and the grounding means. The rear shell covers the first and the second assembling sections of the first and the second contact modules.

Cable end connector with a plurality of contact modules, shielding shells and grounding means

An electrical connector includes an insulative housing and two contact modules. The insulative housing has a bottom mounting portion having a cavity opening downwardly and a mating portion, the mating portion has a central mating space and a pair of side walls on both sides of the mating space, and a plurality of contact receiving passageways defined on each side wall. Each contact module has an insulator received in the cavity and a plurality of contacts insert-molded in the insulator, each contact defines a contacting arm and a soldering portion. The insulative housing defines a pair of locating portions extending downwards from two sides of the mounting portion, the distance between the pair of locating portions is smaller than an internal diameter of the cavity, a pair of demising slots are formed on an interior side of each locating portion for the contact modules passing through.

Electrical connector

A Universal Serial Bus connector includes a first contact module, a second contact module, a shielding shell enclosing the contact modules, and a grounding member. The contact modules each have a number of contacts and an insulator retaining the contacts. Each contact has a fastening portion assembled in the insulator, a contacting portion extending from the fastening portion, and a tail portion extending from the fastening portion opposite to the contacting portion. The contacts include grounding contacts. The shielding shell provides a front mating face. The grounding member connects with the grounding contacts and extends in different plane compared to the grounding contacts. The grounding member defines a front contact tab and the grounding contact defines a front edge end. The front contact tab is closer to the front mating face of the shielding shell than the front edge ends of the grounding contacts.

USB connector having an improved grounding

A connector for electrically connecting with a complementary connector, includes an insulating housing, a number of conductive contacts, and a shielding shell. The insulating housing includes a base, a mating tongue extending forwards from the base, and a number of channels extending through the mating tongue and the base. The conductive contacts are retained in the channels, with each conductive contact having a fixing portion assembled within corresponding channel, a contacting portion extending from one side of the fixing portion and a soldering portion extending from the other side of the fixing portion opposite to the contacting portion. The shielding shell covers the insulating housing and the number of conductive contacts. One of the contacts is employed for grounding purpose.

Electrical connector with grounding contact

A USB cable end connector and the method of making the same are disclosed. The cable end connector includes a first contact module, a second contact module, a central grounding unit sandwiched between the two contact modules, a shielding shell enclosing the first and the second contact modules; and a grounding means attached to the first and the second contact modules along a height direction of the connector. The grounding means includes an upper grounding pad and a lower grounding pad. The upper grounding pad and the lower grounding pad are assembled to a first and a second insulators of the contact modules along a height direction, respectively. The upper grounding pad is sandwiched between the first contact module and the shielding shell. The lower grounding pad is sandwiched between the second contact module and the shielding shell.

Cable end connector and method making the same

A connector includes a first contact module, a second contact module, a shielding shell and a latching member. The contact modules each include a number of contacts and an insulator retaining the contacts. The contact has a fastening portion assembled in the insulator, a contacting portion extending from the fastening portion, and a terminal portion extending from the fastening portion opposite to the contacting portion. The shielding shell covers around the first and the second contact modules. The latching member assists to secure the connection between the electrical connector with a complementary connector. The first contacts and the second contacts each have a pair of grounding terminals and the latching member connects with the pair of grounding terminals.

An electrical connector includes an insulative housing, at least a contact module and a grounding member. The insulative housing has a body portion and a mating portion forwardly extending from the body portion. The mating portion is provided with a top wall, a bottom wall, a pair of side walls and a receiving space formed therebetween. The receiving space opens forwardly. The contact module has a plurality of contacts retained on the insulative housing. Each contact has a contact portion forwardly extending into the receiving space and a connecting portion backwardly extending out of the body portion. The grounding member has a middle grounding sheet and a pair of locking arms projecting into the receiving space. The middle grounding sheet is fixed in the body portion and spacing apart from the contacts along an up to down direction. The locking arms electrically connect with the middle grounding sheet.

An electrical connector includes an insulative housing, a number of contacts retained in the insulative housing, a metallic outer shell enclosing the insulative housing, and a metallic inner shell positioned between the metallic outer shell and the insulative housing. The insulative housing includes a base and a tongue portion protruding from the base. The contacts include a number of flat contacting portions exposed on a top surface and a bottom surface of the tongue portion, respectively. The metallic inner shell includes at least two pieces which are separately made and fixed to the insulative housing. The metallic inner shell and the metallic outer shell are in mechanical contact with each other in order to achieve a relative larger grounding area.

An electrical connector includes an upper contact module, a lower contact module, an outer insulative housing inject-molded with the upper contact module and the lower contact module, a shielding mechanism at least partly fixed in the outer insulative housing and a metallic outer shell enclosing the outer insulative housing. The upper contact module includes a number of upper contacts and an upper housing inject-molded with the upper contacts. The lower contact module includes a number of lower contacts and a lower housing inject-molded with the lower contacts. The shielding mechanism and the metallic outer shell are in mechanical contact with each other for achieving a relative larger grounding area.

An electrical connector having an insulative housing, a middle grounding member and a pair of contact modules. The insulative housing has a mating portion, a body portion and an upper cavity and a lower cavity at upper and lower sides of the body portion. The mating portion has a top wall, a bottom wall, a pair of side walls and a receiving space therebetween. The middle grounding member is retained in the body portion. Each contact module has an insulator received in the upper or lower cavity, contacts and a locking spring in the insulator. The locking spring is at a lateral side of the contacts and has a fixing portion fixed in the insulator, a locking arm forwardly extending to the receiving space and an extension tab backwardly extending from a rear side of the fixing portion. Each contact has a contact arm extending to the receiving space.
