An ultraviolet radiation absorbing composition can be used as a light stabilizer for a shaped artificial polymer article, wherein the polymer is a synthetic polymer and/or a natural elastomer and wherein the ultraviolet radiation absorbing composition includes the compound of formula (I) wherein n and m are independently 0 to 20, and at least one of m and n being ≥1; and X1, X2, X3, X4 and X5 are the same or different and are independently selected from H, C(O)R1 with R1 being C-C-alkyl, or a group of the general formula (II) wherein R2 is H or halogen.

Hindered amine light stabilizers

Highly effective stabilizer

Reversibly thermochromic compositions

The present invention pertains to a reversible thermochromic system comprising a &#x3b2;-phenylvinylketone or a &#x3c9;-phenyl polyacetylenyl ketone with at least one acidic hydrogen and a base and to a reversible thermochromic composition comprising the reversible thermochromic system and a carrier material and to novel substituted &#x3b2;-phenylvinylketones or &#x3c9;-phenyl polyacetylenyl ketones with at least one acidic hydrogen.

Reversible thermochromic compositions

Photochromic compositions are disclosed comprising a polymeric material, a photochromic dye, a hydroxyphenyl triazine UV absorber and, optionally, a further light stabilizer selected from the sterically hindered amines. These systems provide a reversible photochromic effect and show improved light stabilization and color fastness.

Stabilization of photochromic systems

The invention relates to novel compounds of the formula I, II; III or IV wherein the general symbols are as defined in claim. These compounds are useful as surface modifiers for polymers in order to improve resistance to fog formation or water and oil repellency.

Permanent surface modifiers

The present invention relates to highly compatible hydroxyphenyltriazine UV-absorbers and to their use in protecting plants in green houses and the protection of foodstuffs, beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, personal care products, shampoos and the like from the deleterious effects of ultraviolet radiation. It has been found that certain highly compatible tris-aryl-s-triazines are especially effective towards this end when incorporated in the containers or films in which such materials are stored.

The invention relates to metathesis polymers wherein an aromatic group that has UV-light absorbing properties is attached with a bridge group to the polymer. Also disclosed is a polymerizable composition comprising a catalytically effective amount of a penta- or hexavalent ruthenium or osmium carbene catalyst, the process for preparing the metathesis polymer by applying the reaction conditions of Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerization (=ROMP) to the polymerizable composition; and various technical applications of the metathesis polymers.
