A method for producing a data carrier which has a built-in element. A recess for receiving the built-in element and a collecting groove for receiving displaced filling material are formed in a core layer. An excess of filling material is specifically provided in the free spaces remaining between the wall of the recess and the built-in element and on the surface. With a covering film interposed, the filling material is then rolled or spread out over the surface by means of a doctor blade.

Method and device for producing a portable data carrier with a built-in element

A method for producing a finishing layer containing a window () for a portable data storage medium, in particular a chip card, and the use of the method for producing a data storage medium. A transparent plastic-based support layer () is used and an opaque color layer () is applied on the support layer in a screen printing process, wherein the color layer () has a recess () having the dimensions of the window (). A module for insertion into a data carrier body to form a data carrier, the module having a contact interface with a contact area, at least one integrated circuit and a display device with a display area which are interconnected. Method for producing the module, the data carrier body and the data carrier. The contact interface and the display device of the module are disposable in the data carrier body such that the contact area of the contact interface and the display area of the display device point in opposite directions. The data carrier body thus possesses a through opening into which the module is insertable as described.
