Described is a phenolic resin composition for use in the polyurethane cold-box and/or no-bake process. The phenolic resin composition comprises an ortho-condensed phenolic resol having etherified and/or free methylol groups in a total amount of 40 to 60% by weight based on the total mass of the phenolic resin composition, free formaldehyde in an amount of less than 0.1% by weight based on the total weight of the phenolic resin composition, one or more reaction products of formaldehyde with one or more C&#x2014;H-acidic reactant compounds, other constituents in a total amount of at least 38% by weight, wherein the amount of water in the phenolic resin composition is not more than 1.0% by weight in each case based on the total mass of the phenolic resin composition. Also described is a two-component binder system for use in the polyurethane cold-box and/or no-bake process, a use of a C&#x2014;H-acidic compound as a formaldehyde scavenger for producing a phenolic resin composition for use in the polyurethane cold-box and/or no-bake process, a process for producing a phenolic resin composition, a process for producing a two-component binder system and a process for producing a feeder, a foundry mold or a foundry core from a molding material mixture and finally corresponding feeders, foundry molds and foundry cores.

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a foundry body including the preparation of a granular mixture including a polycondensed resin having modified formaldehyde, optionally incorporating an aromatic or polyaromatic during the synthesis thereof, a hardening agent, a formaldehyde sensor compound, water and optionally at least one resin selected from the group comprising tannins, natural polyphenols, and lignins, placing said granular mixture in contact with the surface of a forming tool, and insufflating a flow of gas at 50&#xb0; C. to 380&#xb0; C. into the granular mixture for 1 to 300 seconds, in order to ensure at least partial hardening of said mixture. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a molded foundry piece made of metal or a metal alloy, which includes pouring metal into at least one body (mold and/or core) thus produced; and to a foundry piece thus manufactured.

Method for obtaining a foundry body from a granular mixture comprising a modified polycondensed resin and a formaldehyde scavenger

The invention relates to a method for producing a body including: preparing a granular mixture including a) at least 90 wt % of mineral oxide grains; b) 0.3 to 3 wt % of resin polycondensed with formaldehyde and/or the derivatives thereof, the percentage being calculated in terms of dry resin extract; c) 0.001 to 1 wt % of a hardening agent, the percentage being calculated in terms of dry hardener extract; d) 0.005 to 0.35 wt % of a formaldehyde scavenger compound; and e) 0.2 to 3 wt % of water; contacting said granular mixture with a surface of a forming tool; and insufflating a gas flow at 50 to 380 degrees into the granular mixture for 1 to 300 seconds in order to at least partially cure said mixture, the formaldehyde scavenger being carbohydrazide.
