A conveying device has an accumulation area for accumulating objects, and an operating method operates the conveying device. Using a measuring device, the object rear edge of a first object and the object front edge of a second object which follows the first object are detected. The position of the objects is determined using rotation signals from the drives of conveyor elements. For the second object, a continuous curve of a speed reduction of a target speed is calculated, wherein the calculated stop position of the object front edge of the second object is located at the position of the object rear edge of the stopped first object, or between the object front edge of the stopped first object and the object rear edge of the stopped first object. Subsequently, the second object is moved and stopped using the conveyor elements on the basis of the calculated speed reduction.

The invention relates to a conveying device () having an accumulation area (SB) for accumulating objects (O, O. . . O, Oa . . . Oj), and to an operating method for the conveying device (). By means of a measuring device (L), the object rear edge (K) of a first object (O) and the object front edge (K) of a second object (O) which follows the first object (O) are detected. The position of the objects (O, O) is determined by means of rotation signals from the drives (M) of conveyor elements (). For the second object (O), a continuous curve of a speed reduction of a target speed (v) is calculated, wherein the calculated stop position (P) of the object front edge (K) of the second object (O) is located at the position of the object rear edge (K) of the stopped first object (O), or between the object front edge (K) of the stopped first object (O) and the object rear edge (K) of the stopped first object (O). Subsequently, the second object (O) is moved and stopped by means of the conveyor elements () on the basis of the calculated speed reduction.

The invention relates to a method for the position determination of an object (), which is conveyed on a conveying device (). In this process, a deviation (&#x394;P) between a position (P) of the object (), which is calculated with the aid of rotation signals from the drives (M) for conveyor elements () of the conveying device (), and a position (P. . . P) of a detection area (E,E) of a sensor (L. . . L) fixedly installed on the conveying device () is determined and used for calculating a corrected position (P) of the object () during a movement of the object () away from this detection area (E,E). Furthermore, a conveying device () for performing the presented method is indicated.
