A method for operation of a broadband access network of a telecommunications network includes: a central office point of delivery and/or a load management entity or functionality thereof detects that an increased load situation is currently happening or determines that an increased load situation is likely to happen or that a specific task is to be performed; the central office point of delivery triggers the use of additional virtualized network functions and/or additional micro services and an additional message router and load balancing entity for handling the increased load situation and/or for performing specific tasks within the telecommunications network and/or within the central office point of delivery; and upon detection of a normal load situation, the central office point of delivery releases the use of the additional virtualized network functions and/or additional micro services and the use of the additional message router and load balancing entity.

A communication system for transmitting data packets includes: at least one Access Node (AN) connectable to a user equipment (UE); a User Plane Function (UPF) component; and a data network (DN). The UPF component is a distributed component and comprises: at least one User Plane Function Edge (UPF-E) component and a User Plane Function Core (UPF-C) component, the UPF-E component being connected between the at least one AN and the UPF-C component, and the UPF-C component being connected between the UPF-E component and the data network (DN) or another UPF-C; and a UPF Management (UPF-M) component configured to terminate an N4 interface.

A method for operation of a central office point of delivery includes: in response to a pluggable interface module being plugged into an access node port of a line termination node of the central office point of delivery, transmitting, by the line termination node, a request message to a control node of the central office point of delivery, wherein the request message comprises interface module information related to the pluggable interface module, and wherein an activation clearance is requested, via the request message, from the control node; receiving, by the line termination node, from the control node, an acknowledgement message related to the activation clearance requested by the request message, wherein the acknowledgement message corresponds to a verification operation and/or activation clearance operation having been successful; and activating, by the line termination node and/or by the access port node, the pluggable interface module.
