A method for manufacturing a steel component from a blank is provided. Firstly, a blank is placed in a conveyor system. Then, at least a preselected zone of the blank is preheated while the blank is retained at a predetermined preheating location. Finally, the blank is conveyed through a furnace. A preheating system for heating blanks in a production line is also provided.

Examples of methods of hot forming structural components are provided. The methods include heating a blank made from an Ultra High Strength Steel with an aluminum coating and forming the heated blank in a multi-step apparatus.

Press methods for coated steels and uses of steels

A tool for manufacturing hot formed structural components having locally different microstructures and mechanical properties, the tool comprising upper and lower mating dies, each die being formed by two or more die blocks () comprising one or more working surfaces () that in use face the structural component to be formed and one or more supporting blocks, the upper and lower dies comprising die blocks are adapted to operate at different temperatures corresponding to zones of the structural component to be formed having locally different microstructures and mechanical properties, the die blocks including one or more warm die blocks adapted to operate at a higher temperature, and one or more cold die blocks adapted to operate at a lower temperature, and wherein at least one of the warm die blocks is an electrically conductive die block which is electrically connected to a current source configured to provide a DC current through the die block to control the temperature of the die block. Furthermore, a method for manufacturing hot formed structural components is also provided.

Tool for hot forming structural components

Press systems for manufacturing hot formed structural components may be provided. The systems comprise a fixed lower body (), a mobile upper body () and a mechanism configured to provide upwards and downwards press progression of the mobile upper body () with respect to the fixed lower body (). The system further comprises a cooling/heating tool () configured to cool down and/or heat a previously heated blank having locally different microstructures and mechanical properties which comprises: upper () and lower () mating dies, and the upper () and lower () dies comprising two or more die blocks adapted to operate at different temperatures corresponding to zones of the blank having locally different microstructures and mechanical properties, and a press tool () configured to draw the blank, wherein the press tool () is arranged downstream the cooling/heating tool (). Moreover, methods for hot forming structural components are also provided.

Press systems and methods

A tool for hot forming die quenching boron steel structural components having locally different microstructures and mechanical properties is described. The tool includes upper and lower mating dies, each die being formed by two or more die blocks including a working surface that in use faces the structural component to be formed, and side faces. The upper and lower dies include at least two neighboring die blocks adapted to operate at different temperatures corresponding to zones of the structural component to be formed having locally different microstructures and mechanical properties, wherein the neighboring die blocks are arranged with a gap between their side faces and end portions of the side faces of the neighboring die blocks that are close to the working surface are designed such that in use they are in contact.

Hot forming die quenching

Press systems for manufacturing hot formed structural components are provided. The systems comprise a fixed lower body, a mobile upper body and a mechanism configured to provide upwards and downwards press progression of the mobile upper body with respect to the fixed lower body. The system further includes a cooling tool configured to cool down a previously heated blank. The cooling tool includes upper and lower mating dies, the lower die connected to the lower body with one or more lower biasing elements and/or the upper die connected to the upper body with one or more upper biasing elements. The system further includes a press tool configured to draw the blank, wherein the press tool is arranged downstream from the cooling tool. Moreover, methods for hot forming structural components are also provided.
