In an example, a method includes acquiring, by a processor and for a set of locations in a fabrication chamber for additive manufacturing, data identifying a first subset of locations associated with a first level of variability in deformations in object generation and a second subset of locations associated with a second, greater, level of variability in deformations object generation. A geometrical compensation model may be derived to compensate for anticipated deformations in object generation by a first additive manufacturing apparatus. The geometrical compensation model may comprise geometrical transformations to apply to object model data representing at least a portion of an object, wherein each geometrical transformation is associated with a location of the set of locations. The first subset of locations may be associated with geometrical transformations determined based objects generated by a plurality of additive manufacturing apparatus and the second subset of locations may be associated with geometrical transformations determined based on objects generated by the first additive manufacturing apparatus.

Geometrical compensation models

Example implementations relate to compensating for shrinkage in 3D printing. One example implementation receives an object model to print a corresponding object in a three-dimensional (3D) printer, the object model having a plurality of surface coordinates. A plurality of dimensional modification compensation factors are determined dependent on respective locations within a printing volume of the 3D printer. The object model is adjusted at the plurality of surface coordinates using respective dimensional modification compensation factors depending on the location of the surface coordinates within the printing volume in order to generate a printable object model.

In an example, a method includes obtaining a compensation model characterising a relationship between a location of an object within a fabrication chamber of an additive manufacturing apparatus and a geometrical compensation to be applied to a model of said object, wherein different geometrical compensation values are associated with different locations. In some examples the method further includes determining a magnitude of a dimension parameter of each object of a set of objects to be generated in a build operation. The method may include determining a spatial arrangement of objects to be generated within the build volume, based on the magnitude of the dimension parameters and the geometrical compensation values for an intended location of object generation in the spatial arrangement.

In an example, a method includes receiving, at least one processor, voxelised object model data describing at least part of an intended fabrication chamber content to be generated using additive manufacturing. The voxelised object model data may be derived from a first data set modelling a first object as 2D slices and a second data set modelling a second object as a 3D mesh. Data within the voxelised object model data which is derived from the first data set may be identified, and a geometrical transformation may be applied thereto.

A computer-implemented method is disclosed. The computer-implemented method comprises receiving data indicative of a post-manufacture treatment to be applied to a three-dimensional object following completion of a manufacturing process to generate the three-dimensional object; and determining, based on the received data indicative of the post-manufacture treatment, build parameters to be applied in respect of the manufacturing process. In an example, a method includes receiving, at least one processor, object model data representing at least a portion of a first object that is to be generated by an additive manufacturing apparatus by fusing build material within a fabrication chamber. An indication of an amount of fused build material in a region of the fabrication chamber which is to be below the region in which the first object is to be generated may be determined and a dimensional compensation value to apply to the object model data representing the first object may be determined based on the determined indication. The determined dimensional compensation value may be applied to the object model data to derive modified object model data.

In an example, a method may include obtaining a first measurement of a first object generated using additive manufacturing apparatus based on object model data and obtaining a second measurement of a second object generated using the additive manufacturing apparatus based on object model data to which a first geometrical compensation parameter has been applied. An effect of the first geometrical compensation parameter may be determined based on the first and second measurements and, based on the determined effect, the first geometrical compensation parameter may be evaluated.

In an example, a method includes receiving, by at least one processor, object model data representing at least a portion of a first object that is to be generated by an additive manufacturing apparatus. An indication of a proportion of the first object which is solid may be determined, and, based thereon, a dimensional compensation value may be determined. In an example, a method includes obtaining an indication of a deviation from an expected dimension of at least one dimension of an object generated using an additive manufacturing apparatus. A geometrical compensation model to apply to object model data for generating objects using additive manufacturing to compensate for anticipated deviations in dimensions may be determined from the obtained indication. The geometrical compensation model may comprise a first value to apply to object model data to modify a specification of an external dimension; and a second, different, value to apply to object model data to modify a specification of an internal dimension.

In an example, a method includes receiving, at least one processor, object model data representing at least a portion of an object that is to be generated by an additive manufacturing apparatus by fusing build material within a fabrication chamber, wherein the object model data comprises a mesh model comprising data describing a surface of the object. A geometrical compensation vector may be determined for the object model data, the geometrical compensation vector having a first component applying to a first axis of the fabrication chamber and a second component applying to a second axis of the fabrication chamber. A geometrical compensation to apply to at least one location on the surface of the object may be determined by determining a product of the geometrical compensation vector and a vector indicative of the normal of the object surface at the location and the determined geometrical compensation may be applied to the object model data to generate modified object model data.

In an example, a tangible machine-readable medium stores instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to evaluate a plurality of possible object generation arrangements based on a default separation distance and an enhanced separation distance, wherein the enhanced separation distance is used to assess predefined object sub-portions.

Evaluating candidate virtual build volumes

A method of processing merged 3D geometric information in a 3D printing system is described that receives a 3D object model file representing at least two physical 3D parts to be printed, wherein the 3D object model file comprises 3D geometric information for the at least two physical 3D parts, wherein the 3D geometric information is encoded as at least one logical 3D part, wherein at least one of the at least one logical 3D part comprises merged 3D geometric information for at least a subset of the at least two physical 3D parts. From the 3D object model file, a separate set of 3D geometric information for each of the at least two physical 3D parts is extracted and each separate set of 3D geometric information is processed individually before printing the physical 3D parts.
