Methods, systems, and devices are described for routing modification based on handover detection in UEs and network equipment. According to the principles of the present specification, communication between a User Equipment (UE) and a network equipment may be established over a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT, and a coupling between the first RAT and the second RAT may be identified in the communication between the UE and the network equipment. A handover event associated with at least one of the RATs may be identified, and network traffic routing may be adapted based at least in part on the identified handover event and the coupling between the first RAT and the second RAT.

Routing modification based on handover detection

The disclosure provides for a user equipment (UE) to change from a first network to a second network for an internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) call. Initially, the UE has a connection to a first network providing an IP address for the UE. The UE may receive, via the first network, a message indicating an incoming IMS call. The UE may transmit one or more IMS call setup messages on the first network at an IP layer. The UE may change the connection from the first network to a second network that uses a same identifier for the UE (e.g., the IP address). The UE may complete setup of the IMS call on the second network using the same identifier for the UE.

UE network mobility during IMS

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. An access point (AP) may include a service discovery indicator in a broadcast message. A user equipment (UE) may tune to the radio frequency spectrum band of the AP and receive the broadcast message. The UE may identify a web resource based on the service discovery indicator and access the web resource to determine the capability configuration of the AP. The UE may access the web resource using an existing internet connection of its currently serving AP.

Out-of-band service discovery indication

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may attempt to access a network at a local area network access point without prior context information. The access point may be a hotspot operating in unlicensed spectrum according to a Long Term Evolution (LTE)-based standard. The UE may be unable to determine if it is authorized to access the network, so the UE may attempt to obtain system information that provides a list of service providers supported by the network. The UE may then determine whether it has credentials for a supported service provider, and the UE may access the network using those credentials when a supported service provider is recognized. Other broadcast messages may provide information about system information for supported service providers. A UE that is unable to access the network using stored credentials may attempt access using a random access channel procedure.

Automatic network selection for multefire

Methods, systems, and devices for enhanced neighbor discovery through enhanced automatic neighbor relations (ANR) and for detecting cell identifier confusion and are described. Neighboring base stations may provide information to one another, including using ANR, that may avoid or help to resolve cell identity confusion. For example, a NHN-ID may be defined to avoid or resolve cell identify confusion. A wireless device, such as a base station or a user equipment (UE), may determine whether neighboring cells are using a common cell identifier and may adjust operations accordingly. For example, a device may detect physical cell identity (PCI) confusion by determining whether two neighboring cells have the same PCI and different Evolved Universal Terrestrial Access Network (E-UTRAN) Cell Global Identifiers (ECGIs) or different Neutral Host Network Identifier (NHN-IDs). A network entity may then inform the neighboring cells having the same PCI of the confusion.

Enhanced neighbor relations and physical cell identifier confusion detection

A neutral home network (NHN) may support home-routed traffic between a user equipment (UE) and a network of a mobile network operator (MNO) associated with the UE. The NHN may transmit an access point name (APN) that indicates a public land mobile network (PLMN) identifier (ID) to the UE. If the NHN supports home-routed traffic, the NHN may transmit an APN that indicates an MNO PLMN ID. If the NHN does not support home-routed traffic, the NHN may transmit an APN that indicates an NHN PLMN ID. From the APN, the UE may determine whether the NHN supports home-routed traffic. If the NHN supports home-routed traffic, the UE may transmit a packet data network (PDN) connectivity request to the NHN. If the NHN does not support home-routed traffic, the UE may establish a tunnel to the MNO network through Internet access provided by the NHN.

Determination of home routing capability of a neutral host network

Methods, systems, and devices are described for assessing the quality of end-to-end connectivity for a wireless communication device. Data generated from at least one of existing traffic and networking operations caused by existing traffic of the wireless communication device may be monitored to obtain information related to connectivity quality. One or more values of one or more metrics may be determined using the obtained information. The quality of end-to-end connectivity for the wireless communication device may be assessed using the value(s) of the metric(s). Based at least in part on a result of the assessment, an action may be performed to improve connectivity quality for the wireless communication.

Determination of end-to-end transport quality

Various features pertain to the authentication of mobile devices or other User Equipment. In some aspects, a Retail-based Neutral Host LTE is provided for use with Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks that, among other features, provides a WiFi Alliance HotSpot 2.0 (HS2.0) user experience using LTE technology for non-mobile network operator (non-MNO) Service Providers (SPs), while maintaining high security assurances as with LTE. That is, in some examples, Retail Neutral Host-LTE is configured to provide the same or similar security assurances as with MNO-based LTE. Moreover, retail Neutral Host-LTE offers options for provisioning credentials and authentication with the AAA that are analogous to the options for HS2.0, that is: username/password, SP-issued certificate, and pre-configured mobile device certificate. This is achieved, at least in part, while providing or ensuring that Retail Neutral Host-LTE security provides similar security assurances to MNO-based LTE.

LTE-level security for neutral host LTE

Methods, systems, and devices are described for managing network communication between a UE and network equipment. The communication between the UE and the network equipment may be established over a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT, and a coupling between the first RAT and the second RAT may be identified in the communication between the UE and the network equipment. At least one of a reselection procedure or a handover procedure for at least one of the RATs may be adapted based on the identified coupling between the first RAT and the second RAT.

Coordinating handover events across RATs

A system and method are disclosed that may provide an accurate estimate of an AP's available medium share. The AP may perform a plurality medium access contention operations to determine a duration of a transmit opportunity and a queue service interval for each of a plurality of access categories. The AP may also determine a queue service interval for a number of packet queues associated with each of the access categories. The AP may use timing information derived from the medium access contention operations to estimate a portion of the medium share available on a per-access category and/or per-user basis. The timing information may include the transmit opportunity durations and queue service intervals for the access categories, the queue service intervals for the individual packet queues, and/or values indicative of the AP's PHY rate and medium utilization.

Estimating wireless capacity

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatus for modified power management for UEs in a wireless communication system that utilizes one or more RANs for communication. For example, certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a technique for controlling when the UE is placed in a low power state in the first RAN based, at least in part, on inactivity of the UE in the first RAN. Certain aspects of the present disclosure also relate to controlling when to modify one or more network bearers between the first RAN or the second RAN and the core network based, at least in part, on at least one of inactivity on the one or more network bearers or inactivity in both the first RAN and the second RAN. According to certain aspects, the first RAN may include a WWAN and the second RAN may include a WLAN.
