A system for enhanced power system model validation is provided. The system includes a computing device including at least one processor in communication with at least one memory device. The at least one processor is programmed to store a plurality of models for a plurality of devices and a plurality of input files associated with the plurality of models, receive, from a user, a selection of model of the plurality of models to simulate, retrieve one or more input files of the plurality of input files, perform a model validity check on the selected model, if the selected model passed the model validity check, perform a model calibration on the selected model, and if the selected model passed the model calibration, perform a post evaluation on the selected model.

Systems and methods for enhanced power system model validation

This disclosure relates to systems and methods for real-time electrical power grid restorations. An example system may include a real-time monitoring module configured to acquire operational data associated with electrical grid components of an electrical grid. The system may further include a restoration manager module configured to detect, based on the operational data, one or more unplanned outages or other events in the electrical grid. In response to the detection, the restoration manager module can analyze the operational data to determine or select from a database a restoration plan. The restoration plan can include operations associated with commands for control devices, wherein the control devices are operable to control a power transmission between the electrical grid components. The restoration manager module can be further configured to execute the one or more operations of the restoration plan to restore the electrical power grid to a normal operational state.

Real-time electrical grid restoration

In example embodiments, there is provided enhanced disturbance management for an electrical power system. An enhanced disturbance management component can be operable to read monitoring data based on power flow measurements associated with measurement devices connected to an electrical power system, wherein the monitoring data can comprise alarm data indicative of an electrical disturbance within the electrical power system, and topology data indicative of a topology of the electrical power system. The enhanced disturbance management component can be operable to correlating the alarm data with a change in the topology data.

In example embodiments, there is provided a dynamic dispatcher simulator for an electrical power system. The dynamic dispatcher simulator can be operable to receive an input from a user identity during a run time, wherein the input represents a disturbance event indicative of a simulated disturbance to an electrical power system. Based on the input, a signal can be transmitted to a transient simulation engine component. The transient simulation engine component can output simulated phasor measurement unit data representative of the disturbance event to a wide area monitoring system that facilitates a display of alarms in response to the receipt of the simulated phasor measurement unit data. The dynamic dispatcher training simulator can also receive another input from the user during the run time, the second input being representative of a simulated condition related to the electrical power system.

Energy flow in a power grid system (e.g., an electrical energy distribution system) is managed. In an example embodiment, a system provides for generating monitoring data for an electrical energy distribution system based on power-flow data for the electrical energy distribution system and topology data for the electrical energy distribution system. The power-flow data is indicative of voltage values that are repeatedly obtained from the electrical energy distribution system. The topology data is indicative of a topology for the electrical energy distribution system. The system also provides for identifying, based on the monitoring data, a change in a voltage angle associated with a transmission line in the electrical energy distribution system. Furthermore, the system provides for generating a notification for a graphical user interface in response to a determination that the change in the voltage angle for the transmission line satisfies a defined criterion.

The technology is generally directed towards characterizing primary frequency response parameters (e.g., frequency response coefficient, inertia, damping, droop) for an interconnection, region, and power plant utilizing phasor measure unit (PMU) data captured during an event (e.g., a generation trip event) that causes an imbalance in the power grid system. Pre-processing of localized PMU based frequency measurements combined with system identification techniques fit the observed frequency response to estimate parameters such as system inertia, frequency response coefficient, turbine time constant, system damping and governor droop that characterize the interconnection-wide frequency response.

Primary power grid frequency response characterization using phasor measurement unit data

The technology is generally directed towards real-time power grid island detection and monitoring, including obtaining and outputting information about the cause and location of the islanding event, island size, island composition, phasor measurement units in each island, and the overall island frequency. The technology provides for suggested island resynchronization actions such as one or more circuit breakers that can be closed by the power grid system operators to resynchronize an island with the main island/system. An application program may output the information and also assist the operators during the resynchronization process by providing real time information about the voltage difference and frequency difference across each proposed circuit breaker in the suggested restoration point. Real-time tracking of the island resynchronization actions is also described.
