The concentrated liquid fabric softening composition of the present invention comprises an ester-linked triethanolamine (TEA) quaternary ammonium fabric softening material having an Iodine Value of between 0 and 60 and comprising a mixture of at mono-, di- and tri-ester linked components; a single long chain cationic surfactant based on quaternized fatty acid amido-amine surfactants with optional ethoxylate groups and preferably having a methylsulphate counter-ion; and a co-fragmenting agent which is a polyol selected from trihydric and polyhydric polyols. The compositions have a desirable pearly appearance which is stable across a range of storage temperatures.

Fabric conditioning compositions

The concentrated liquid fabric softening composition of the present invention comprises an ester-linked triethanolamine (TEA) quaternary ammonium fabric softening material having an Iodine Value of between 0 and 60 and comprising a mixture of at mono-, di- and tri-ester linked components; a single long chain cationic surfactant which has one or more ethoxylate groups and preferably has a methylsulphate counter-ion, and a co-fragmenting agent which is a polyol selected from trihydric and polyhydric polyols. The compositions have a desirable pearly appearance which is stable across a range of storage temperatures.

An aqueous fabric conditioning composition comprises (a) 7.5 to 60% by weight of a cationic fabric softening compound of a quaternary ammonium softening compound, the compound having one or more hydrocarbyl chains formed from parent fatty acyl compounds or fatty acids having an iodine value of between 0 and 20, (b) 0.01%&#x2013;1.5% by weight of a nonionic surfactant viscosity modifier and (c) optionally up to 1.4% by weight of a fatty alcohol wherein the combination of (b) and (c) is no more than 1.5% by weight of the composition and the composition comprises particles having a mean diameter of from 0.3 to 7 microns, measured using a Malvern Mastersizer.

A heat activated fabric treatment composition comprises from 3 to 75 wt % of one or more fabric treatment active ingredients, from 5 to 60 wt % of a nonionic surfactant and from 10 to 50 wt % of water. The composition is provided in a dispensing device which, in use, is attached to the internal panel of a tumble dryer.

Fabric treatment composition

A fabric conditioning composition comprises from 7.5 to 80% by weight of a ester-linked quaternary ammonium fabric softening material comprising at lease one mono-ester linked component and at least one tri-ester linked component, from 0.01 to 10% by weight of a nonionic surfactant and greater than 1.5 to 15% by weight of a fatty complexing agent wherein the weight ratio of the mono-ester component of compound (a) to fatty completing agent (c) is from 5:1 to 1:5. The compositions have good viscosity profiles.

A heat activated fabric treatment composition comprises from 3 to 75 wt % of one or more fabric treatment active ingredients, from 10 to 50 wt % of water, from 5 to 40 wt % of an oil and optionally from 2 to 30 wt % of a nonionic surfactant. The composition is provided in a dispensing device which, in use, is attached to the internal panel of a tumble dryer.

Fabric softening compositions with 1-10% by weight of cationic fabric softening compound show a surprising increase in viscosity when a fatty acid partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol at a level greater than 0.01% by weight and less than or equal to 0.45% by weight based on the composition is added and if the resulting mixture is sheared at a temperature below the phase transition temperature of the fabric softener composition. As a result, viscosities in the range 35-500 mPa&#xb7;s at 106 scan be obtained in a surprising manner.

A method of thinning a fabric conditioning composition comprising (a) from 7.5 to 80% by weight of a ester-linked quaternary ammonium fabric softening material comprising at least one mono-ester linked component and at least one tri-ester linked component; comprises the step of adding a fatty complexing agent (b) to the composition in an amount such that the weight ratio of the mono-ester linked component of compound (a) to fatty complexing agent (b) is from 2.93:1 to 1:5.
