A gearbox is coupled to a shaft of a motor. The gearbox is configured to be rotated by the motor. An encoder is coupled to the shaft of the motor. The encoder is configured to detect a shaft position. The encoder is configured to produce a position stream indicative of the shaft position. A coupling is configured to receive a separate machine shaft. A controller is coupled to the encoder and the motor. The controller is configured to receive the position stream from the encoder and produce a drive signal to rotate the motor.

Automated rotating equipment preservation

A recorder for documenting that a shaft in a rotating machine has been rotated while the rotating machine is stored or otherwise out of service. The recorder includes an elongated strip that is wound on a reel disposed adjacent the shaft. The reel is rotatable about an axle that is spaced away from the shaft. A free end of the strip is secured to an outer surface of the shaft and spools onto the shaft as the shaft is rotated, and which unwinds the strip from the reel. Markings are on the strip representing distance from the free end, which visually indicate occurrence and amount of shaft rotation. Types of markings include different colors or patterns, and which change at distances corresponding to shaft circumference. Alternatively, the markings are metered increments illustrating linear distance.

Recorder for shaft rotation verification

A solar panel is electrically coupled to a battery and configured to convert solar energy to electricity to charge the battery. A heating element is electrically coupled to the battery. A thermal sensor is configured to detect an ambient temperature. The thermal sensor is configured to produce a temperature stream indicative of the detected ambient temperature. A humidity sensor is configured to detect an ambient humidity. The humidity sensor is configured to produce a humidity stream indicative of the detected ambient humidity. A controller is electrically couple to the thermal sensor the humidity sensor, and the heating element. The controller is configured to receive a profile that includes an initial designated duration and an initial temperature needed for a designated machine, and produce a current for the heating element to heat the designated machine for the designated duration and temperature.

A pipeline pressure test that accounts for measurement uncertainties includes a method for performing a pressure test of a pipe section of a pipeline including receiving a desired pressure to be applied to the pipe section and a duration of time the desired pressure is to be applied to the pipe section, receiving a pressure measurement of a fluid, a temperature measurement of the fluid, a volume measurement of the fluid, and a pipe section strain measurement, determining a change in fluid pressure and a volume change, determining a pressure change uncertainty and a volume change uncertainty, checking that the pressure change uncertainty is within a pressure uncertainty threshold and that the volume change uncertainty is within a volume uncertainty threshold, determining whether the desired pressure has been applied to the inner surface of the pipe section for the duration of time; and outputting a result of the testing.
