A process for the preparation of ethylene oxide in which a conventional ethylene oxide process is modified by supplement with a second chiller and a tempered water system.

Epoxidation process with increased cycle water absorption

A method for the oxidation of ethylene to form ethylene oxide which comprises: providing an aqueous stream containing ethylene glycol and impurities; introducing the aqueous stream in a first ion exchange treatment bed to reduce the content of these impurities; determining whether an outlet of the first ion exchange treatment bed has a conductivity greater than about 5 &#x3bc;S/cm; upon determining that the outlet of the first ion exchange treatment bed has a conductivity greater than about 5 &#x3bc;S/cm, introducing the outlet of the first ion exchange treatment bed into a second ion exchange treatment bed; and upon determining that the outlet of the first ion exchange treatment bed has a conductivity greater than about 60 &#x3bc;S/cm, redirecting the introduction of the aqueous stream to the second ion exchange treatment bed and regenerating the first ion exchange bed.

Epoxidation process

A system for monitoring a process determined by a set of process data in a multidimensional process data domain pertaining to process input-output data, the system comprising: means for acquiring a plurality of historic process data sets; means for obtaining a transformation from the multidimensional process data domain to a model data domain of lower dimension by performing multivariate data analysis; and means for transforming a current process data set to a model data set to monitor the process.

System and method for monitoring a process

A method for the oxidation of ethylene to form ethylene oxide is provided that includes passing an aqueous stream through a guard bed and one or more ion exchange treatment beds. The guard bed and the aqueous stream contain from about 0.2 to 20 wt % ethylene glycol. The guard bed contains a cross-linked polystyrene resin, partially functionalized with quaternary ammonium functional groups and the resin has a surface area of greater than 400 m/g.

A method for controlling ethylene oxidation uses ethylene and oxygen, in conjunction with a silver based catalyst, a moderator and a co-moderator, to form ethylene oxide. When controlling the ethylene oxidation reaction, the moderator concentration is maintained constant within a comparatively narrow operative concentration range and the co-moderator concentration is varied within a comparatively wider operative concentration range, to optimize a catalyst property such as the catalyst activity and/or the catalyst selectivity.

Ethylene oxide production using fixed moderator concentration

High purity ethylene glycol containing 2000 ppm or less aldehyde is contacted with a solid strong acid cation exchange resin and an ethylene glycol product reduced in aldehydes content is recovered.

Glycol purification

Aqueous ethylene glycol solution containing aldehydes such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and the like is contacted with a solid bisulfite treated strong base anion exchange resin and a solution reduced in aldehydes content is separated.
