A door latching or unlatching push bar apparatus comprising: a mounting rail means to be carried by the door, the rail means having a locking rail; a push bar mounted for advancement and retraction relative to the rail means; support means carried by the push bar to extend toward the rail means, and a lock arm carried by the support means to be movable into and out of dogging position relative to the locking rail; and an actuator carried by the push bar and operatively connected with the lock arm to move the lock arm into and out of dogging position when the push bar has been advanced toward the rail means.

Door lock control apparatus includes a rotary input part adapted to be rotated by a handle or knob; a rotary output part adapted to operate a lock mechanism; and structure coupling the input part to the output part, including a pinion gear coupled to the output part; a member having first and second lengthwise extending racks thereon and bodily shiftable between a first position in which the first rack engages the pinion, and a second position in which the second rack engages the pinion, that member also being bodily movable in the length direction of the racks; and a mechanism operatively coupled between the input part and the member to have that member in the length direction in response to rotation of the input part; the racks located to alternately engage the pinion in such first and second positions so that in the member's first position the output part is rotated clockwise when the input part is rotated clockwise, and in the member's second position the output part is rotated counterclockwise when the input part is rotated clockwise, or vice versa depending on 'handing'.

A door lock structure includes a frame and a latch bolt carried by the frame for movement between retracted and advanced positions relative to a jamb. The bolt in its retracted position allows the door to open and when its in its advanced position blocks the closed door from opening. A first heat-fusible spring carried by the frame urges the bolt toward the advanced position. A lever pivotally carried by the bolt pivots between a first bolt blocking position and a second bolt freeing position. The lever has a second heat fusible spring carried by the bolt and acting on the lever for urging the lever toward the first bolt blocking position. The frame carries an actuator for pivoting the lever into the second position allowing movement of the bolt toward the retracted position. The lever also has a counterweight on the lever for keeping the lever in the first position to block retraction of the bolt in the event that the first and second springs melt.
