Processes and systems for the production of heavy isoparaffinic hydrocarbons include feeding hydrogen and a mixed isoolefin stream, including C8-C12 olefins, isoolefins, and oligomers, and C8-C12+ hydrogenated hydrocarbons to a trickle-bed reactor system. The hydrogen and mixed isoolefin are reacted over a hydrogenation catalyst, producing a liquid effluent comprising hydrogenated hydrocarbons and unreacted olefins and oligomers, and a vapor effluent comprising hydrogenated hydrocarbons, hydrogen and unreacted olefins and oligomers. The liquid effluent is fed to a first heat exchanger, producing a cooled liquid effluent stream, which is combined with the vapor effluent, producing a mixed phase effluent. The mixed phase effluent is cooled in a second heat exchanger, producing a partially condensed effluent, which is fed to a drum, producing a vent stream, a hydrogenated product stream having greater than 95 wt % C8-C12 saturated hydrocarbons, and a hydrogenated recycle stream. The hydrogenated product stream may be provided to downstream blending systems.

A reactor system configured for efficiently removing contaminants (CCR, nickel, vanadium, nitrogen, sodium, iron, calcium, chlorine etc.) from a heavy portion of the crude oil. The products are routed to a common main fractionation section. The heavy feed with lower contaminants may then be processed in a fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit, the overall concept employing a fluid catalytic reaction platform with carbon rejection approach. Also disclosed is a reactor system for efficiently processing crude oil in a fluid catalytic cracking unit with a dual-reactor and dual catalyst system to maximize petrochemical building blocks such as ethylene, propylene, butylenes, BTX (benzene, toluene and xylene) rich naphtha from a variety of crude oils.

Production of light olefins from crude oil via fluid catalytic cracking process and apparatus

A light cracked naphtha is treated to convert mercaptans to sulfides and saturate dienes and then subjected to destructive hydrodesulfurization (HDS) to convert the organic sulfur compounds to hydrogen sulfide. The recombinant mercaptans formed by reaction of hydrogen sulfide and olefins at the outlet of the HDS are generally heavier than the light cracked naphtha is fractionated in admixture with a heavy cracked naphtha. A low sulfur content light cracked naphtha is produced as an overheads and the major portion of the mercaptans leave with heavy cracked naphtha as bottoms. It also advantageous to pass the heavy cracked naphtha through the HDS in admixture with the light cracked naphtha, since the recombinant mercaptans formed with the heavy cracked naphtha olefins (which displace some of the lower mercaptans which would form the light cracked naphtha olefins) will be even higher boiling and easier to separate by fractionation.

Process for the treatment of light naphtha hydrocarbon streams

A process for the treatment of a light cracked naphtha is disclosed wherein the light cracked naphtha is first subjected to thioetherification and fractionation into two boiling fractions. The lower boiling fraction is removed as overheads for later recombination with the product and the higher boiling fraction is combined with a heavy cracked naphtha and subjected to simultaneous hydrodesulfurization and fractionation to separate the higher boiling fraction from the heavy cracked naphtha which is recycled. The recycled heavy cracked naphtha is eventually desulfurized and hydrogenated to produce a clean solvent which washes the catalyst and extends catalyst life.
