A method for synthesizing small crystals of silicoaluminophosphate-34 (SAPO-34) molecular sieves with high structural purity. The method includes first forming a slurry comprising monoisopropanolamine. Then, the slurry is aged to form an aged slurry. Finally, crystallization of silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieves comprising the SAPO-34 molecular sieves is induced from the aged slurry.

Method for synthesizing silicoaluminophosphate-34 molecular sieves using monoisopropanolamine

A method for synthesizing small crystals of silicoaluminophosphate-34 (SAPO-34) molecular sieves with high structural purity. The method includes forming a first slurry and a second slurry which are aged separately to form a first aged slurry and a second aged slurry. The first slurry includes a first source of phosphorus, a first source of aluminium, a first source of silicon, and at least one first organic structure directing agent. The second slurry includes a second source of phosphorus, a second source of aluminium, a second source of silicon, and at least one second organic structure directing agent. Then, the first aged slurry and the second aged slurry are combined to form a mixture of aged slurries. Finally, crystallization of silicoaluminophosphate molecular sieves comprising the SAPO-34 molecular sieves is induced from the mixture of aged slurries.

Method for synthesizing silicoaluminophosphate-34 molecular sieves

The process of this invention removes impurities from transesterification products comprising primarily fatty acid alkyl esters (FAAE) that are being processed for final fuel products, such as biodiesel. The inventive process is catalytic, and the resulting ester is suitable for use as biodiesel. Metal oxide and mixed metal oxide catalysts are particularly suitable. The invention is particularly suitable for treating fatty acid alkyl ester compositions comprising impurities such as glycerin, sterol glycosides, and/or triglyceride, diglyceride and/or monoglyceride. The invention is particularly useful in treating FAAE transesterification products made using homogeneous alkali catalysts. The treated ester exhibits improved performance under cold weather conditions, which can be measured by methods such as ASTM 7501 Cold Soak Filtration Test (CSFT).

Catalytic purification of fatty acid alkyl esters used in fuels

The present invention is directed to a method of forming titania clad high surface area alumina suitable as a support for forming noble metal catalysts. The resultant catalysts exhibit resistance to poisoning by sulfurous materials and, therefore, are useful in applications directed to internal combustion engine emission conversion and the like. The present invention provides a commercially feasible and cost effective method of forming a highly desired support for noble metal catalyst application. The process comprises forming a slurry of porous alumina particulate suitable as a catalyst support for the intended application, mixing said slurry with a solution of titanyl sulfate having a pH of about 1, increasing the pH of the mixed slurry/solution at a slow rate of from 0.05 to 0.5 pH unit per minute to a pH of &#x2266;4 by the addition of a basic solution, allowing the resultant slurry to age for a period of from 10 to 120 minutes, separating the treated porous alumina particulates and washing same free of sulfate with a weak base, drying and calcining said particulates to produce titania clad alumina particulate product. The resultant material exhibits a normalized sulfur uptake of less than about 45 &#x3bc;g/m-sample. Such material can subsequently be coated with a noble metal to form the catalyst material.

Sulfur resistant cladded titania&#x2014;alumina supports

The invention concerns catalysts comprising (i) a clad catalyst support comprising (a) a core which comprises alumina particles and (b) about 1 to about 40 weight percent silica cladding, based on the weight of the clad catalyst support, on the surface of the core; the catalyst support having a BET surface area of greater than 20 m/g and a porosity of at least about 0.2 cc/g; and (ii) 0.1 to 10 weight percent, based on the weight of the catalyst, of catalytically active transition metal on the surface of the clad catalyst support; wherein the catalyst support has a normalized sulfur uptake (NSU) of up to 25 &#x3bc;g/m. The invention also concerns the production and use of such catalyst.

Catalyst on silica clad alumina support

A method of producing an aluminum oxide supported catalyst for use in a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction, which comprises: spray-drying a slurry of &#x3b3;-alumina and a source of a spinel forming metal to form a solid precursor material; calcining the precursor material to form a modified support material including a metal aluminate spinel; impregnating the modified alumina support material with a source of cobalt; calcining the impregnated support material, and activating the catalyst.

Fischer-tropsch catalysts

The invention relates to a novel method of preparing attrition resistance spinel supports for Fischer Tropsch catalysts. The process comprises: (a) combining aluminum oxide, metal compound capable of forming spinel phase, and soluble compound of a trivalent aluminum; (b) mixing the combination resulting in (a) in a manner sufficient to form a slurry comprising the aforementioned combination; and (c) processing the mixture of (b) under conditions sufficient to form metal aluminate spinel composition. Metal aluminate spinel, for example, is formed in the last step by calcining the mixture from (b) at a temperature in the range of 700 to 1300&#xb0; C., but the process is also capable, of producing attrition resistant supports (e.g., having a DI of 5 or less) at a relatively lower temperature in the range of 700 to 1050&#xb0; C. The invention also produces the attrition resistance with lower metal loadings than that reported for prior attrition resistant spinel supports.

Attrition resistant supports for fischer-tropsch catalyst and process for making same

The invention concerns catalysts comprising (i) a cladded catalyst support comprising (a) a core which comprises alumina particles and (b) about 1 to about 40 weight percent silica cladding, based on the weight of the cladded catalyst support, on the surface of the core; the catalyst support having a BET surface area of greater than 20 m2/g and a porosity of at least about 0.2 cc/g; and (ii) 0.1 to 10 weight percent, based on the weight of the catalyst, of catalytically active transition metal on the surface of the cladded catalyst support; wherein the catalyst support has a normalized sulfur uptake (NSU) of up to 25 ?g/m2. The support of the present invention is a structure comprising alumina core particulate having high porosity and surface area, wherein the structure has from about 1 to about 8 weight percent silica in the form of cladding on the surface area of said alumina core. The resultant support has a sulfur tolerance efficiency (&#x3b7;) of at least 1000 &#x3bc;g/m2.

Sulfur tolerant alumina catalyst support

Mixed oxides of cerium oxide and zirconium oxides having a high oxygen storage and high oxygen release rate are disclosed. The mixed oxides are made of polycrystalline particles of cerium oxide and zirconium oxide having a controlled domain structure on the subcrystalline level wherein adjacent domains within a single crystallite have a different ratio of zirconium and cerium. The mixed oxides are prepared by a co-precipitation technique using mixed salt solutions of cerium and zirconium having a solid content of at least 23%, based on an oxide basis.

Catalyst support material having high oxygen storage capacity and method of preparation thereof

A process for the preparation of mixed oxide compositions of cerium oxide and at least one non-noble metal oxide is disclosed. The process involves contacting a salt solution containing a cerium (IV) salt with hydrogen peroxide and thereafter, treating the resulting solution with excess base to precipitate a mixed oxides. Mixed oxide compositions produced by the process maintain a high specific surface area after prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
