This disclosure describes methods of operating a leaf node device, such as a switch device, connected to a switch fabric of a network. The leaf node device receives, from another leaf node device via the switch fabric, an indication of a secure route to a host device. In response to receiving the indication of the secure route, the leaf node device creates or updates a routing entry for the host device in a routing information base of the leaf node device and creates or updates an entry for the host device in a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) snoop database of the leaf node device. The leaf node may thereby communicate with the host device that is attached to the leaf node device as a result of moving from the other leaf node device.

DHCP snooping with host mobility

Systems and techniques are provided for synchronizing DHCP snoop information. In some examples, a method can include, performing, by a first PE device from a plurality of PE devices, DHCP snooping of a first plurality of DHCP messages between a DHCP client and a DHCP server, wherein the plurality of PE devices is part of an ethernet segment for multihoming the DHCP client. In some aspects, the method includes determining, based on snooping the first plurality of DHCP messages, an association between an IP address corresponding to the DHCP client and a MAC address corresponding to the DHCP client. In some examples, the method includes sending, by the first PE device to at least one other PE device from the plurality of PE devices, a first route advertisement that includes the association between the IP address corresponding to the DHCP client and the MAC address corresponding to the DHCP client.

Synchronizing dynamic host configuration protocol snoop information

Techniques for connectivity issue remediation are provided. A first link trace message is transmitted from a source end point to a destination end point. A first topology graph for a network is generated based on the first link trace message, and a presence of a connectivity issue in the network is detected. A second link trace message is transmitted from the source end point to the destination end point. A second topology graph for the network is automatically generated based on second link trace message, and a component in the network that caused the connectivity issue is identified based on comparing the first and second topology graphs.

Identifying network connectivity issues using topology graphs

Techniques for connectivity issue remediation are provided. A first link trace message is automatically transmitted from a source end point to a destination end point. A first topology graph is generated for a network based on the first link trace message. Presence of a loop is detected in the network. A second link trace message is then transmitted from the source end point to the destination end point, and a second topology graph is automatically generated for the network based on the second link trace message. An edge in the network that caused the loop is identified based on comparing the first and second topology graphs.

Identifying redundant network links using topology graphs

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to assisting forwarding of multicast traffic over Ethernet Virtual Private Network (EVPN) from a multicast source to a host multi-homed to multiple provider edge (PE) devices. Embodiments are based on the inclusion of an Ethernet Segment Identification (ESI) to EVPN type-6 routes advertised by PE devices which received a multicast Join message. Other PE devices receiving such routes are able to determine whether they belong to the ES identified by the ESI and to determine whether they are designated forwarders (DFs) for the host. Furthermore, PE devices which are the DFs are configured to re-originate the EVPN type-6 routes, i.e. re-send the advertisements, indicating themselves as DFs. This ensures that a remote PE device associated with the multicast source will also send multicast traffic to such DF PE devices, which, in turn, would allow the multicast traffic to successfully reach the host.

Efficient multicast traffic forwarding in EVPN-based multi-homed networks

Access-side loop mitigation may be provided. First, a first edge device may determine that a duplicate host exists on a network. Then the first edge device may detect a loop in response to determining that the duplicate host exists on the network. Detecting the loop may comprise sending a message on a plurality of access-side ports of the first edge device and then receiving, in response to sending the message on the plurality of access-side ports of the first edge device, a response on a first access-side port of the plurality of access-side ports of the first edge device. Next, the first edge device may mitigate the detected loop in response to receiving the response.

Detecting and mitigating loops

Systems, devices, and methods for detecting an Ethernet segment failure in an Ethernet virtual private network (EVPN) are described herein. An example method can include monitoring for failure of an Ethernet segment, establishing a bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) session with a remote peer, and transmitting a BFD control packet to the remote peer over a network. The BFD control packet can include a notification of the failure of the Ethernet segment.

Systems, devices, and methods for detecting Ethernet segment failure in an Ethernet virtual private network

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a first transport stack, a virtual network interface controller (VNIC), and a second transport stack. The first transport stack is associated with an Internetwork Operating System (IOS), as well as with a plurality of interface-based Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and a plurality of IP addresses. The VNIC is configured to dynamically provision the plurality of interface-based IP addresses and the plurality of IP addresses. The second transport stack is associated with a kernel, and configured to communicate with a first application. The MS is configured to enable the first application to share the plurality of IP addresses and the plurality if IP addresses with a plurality of applications.

Enabling applications in a multi-transport stack environment

In particular embodiments, a method includes, from an indexer in a sensor network, accessing a set of sensor data that includes sensor data aggregated together from sensors in the sensor network, one or more time stamps for the sensor data, and metadata for the sensor data identifying one or more pre-determined attributes of the sensor data. The method includes, at the indexer, generating an index of the set of sensor data according to a multi-dimensional array configured for querying of the set of sensor data along with a plurality of other sets of sensor data. One or more first ones of the dimensions of the multi-dimensional array include time, and one or more second ones of the dimensions of the multi-dimensional array include one or more of the pre-determined sensor-data attributes. The method includes, from the indexer, communicating the index of the set of sensor data for use in responding to one or more queries of the set of sensor data along with a plurality of other sets of sensor data.

Indexing sensor data

In particular embodiments, a method includes accessing sensor data from sensor nodes in a sensor network and aggregating the sensor data for communication to an indexer in the sensor network. The aggregation of the sensor data includes deduplicating the sensor data; validating the sensor data; formatting the sensor; generating metadata for the sensor data; and time-stamping the sensor data. The metadata identifies one or more pre-determined attributes of the sensor data. The method also includes communicating the aggregated sensor data to the indexer in the sensor network. The indexer is configured to index the aggregated sensor data according to a multi-dimensional array for querying of the aggregated sensor data along with other aggregated sensor data. One or more first ones of the dimensions of the multi-dimensional array include time and one or more second ones of the dimensions of the multi-dimensional include one or more of the pre-determined sensor-data attributes.

Aggregating sensor data

In particular embodiments, a method includes receiving a query for particular sensor data among multiple sensor data from multiple sensors. The plurality of sensor data has been indexed according to a multi-dimensional array. One or more first ones of the dimensions include time, and one or more second ones of the dimensions include one or more pre-determined sensor-data attributes. The method includes translating the query to correspond to the indexing of the plurality of sensor data. The translated query includes one or more values for one or more of the dimensions of the multi-dimensional array. The method includes communicating the translated query to search among the plurality of sensor data according to its indexing to identify the particular sensor data.

Searching sensor data

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving a summary of statistics concerning a sensor node in a sensor network that comprises a plurality of sensor nodes, the statistics having been generated based on one or more of sensor data from a sensor at the sensor node, communication to the sensor node from one or more other sensor nodes in the sensor network, or communication from the sensor node; analyzing the summary; and applying based on the analysis one or more predetermined polices to one or more of the sensor nodes or the sensor network.
