A method which i) segregates UEs to different categories of 'conforming' and “nonconforming”, and ii) performs rank indicator (RI) filtering and/or switching based on the specific category is provided. Rank indicator (RI) filtering is performed in a SINR-specific manner, e.g., when SINR is low, the rank filtering is performed in such a way to always give an output of 1 or 2, not more. In addition, the Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) assigned for a PDSCH is adjusted when the rank switching is performed, thereby achieving graceful rank switching. Furthermore, Outer Loop Rate Control (OLRC) optimization is provided in response to rank switching.

A method for synchronized selection of user equipments (UEs) for both downlink (DL) Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) operation and uplink (UL) MU-MIMO operation includes: applying a common set of selection criteria for selecting a common pool of UE candidates for both DL and UL MU-MIMO operations, wherein the common set of selection criteria are applied in Stage-1 selection process to select Stage-1 candidates for a UE candidates list; and if the Stage-1 selection process applying the common set of selection criteria is not able to find UE candidates to fill available slots in the UE candidates list, initiating Stage-2 selection process involving 1) applying a first set of Stage-2 selection criteria to select DL-only traffic UEs as Stage-2 candidates for the UE candidates list, and 2) applying a second set of Stage-2 selection criteria to select UL-only traffic UEs as Stage-2 candidates for the UE candidates list.

Synchronized downlink and uplink multi-user MIMO candidate selection in massive-MIMO system

A method of reducing the transmission control protocol acknowledgment (TCP ACK) latency, e.g., in 5G New Radio (NR) or LTE system, is provided, which method is triggered, e.g., for user equipments (UEs) with uplink (UL) inactivity. The time estimation to find the TCP ACK packet arrival is based on estimation time split up in the UE side. In addition, the TCP ACK size estimation is based on the number of TCP data packets sent in Physical Downlink Shared Channel (PDSCH). Furthermore, the first 'proactive allocation window' (the number of the transmission time intervals (TTIs) over which the proactive allocations are given to UE) is set to 4, and subsequently the 'proactive allocation window' may be adapted based on learning.

TCP acknowledgment latency optimization

A method of reducing the Packet Internet Grope (PING) latency, e.g., in 5G New Radio (NR) or LTE system, is provided. When first two PING requests are received from a user equipment (UE) in uplink (UL), the UE will use Scheduling Request (SR) and Buffer Status Report (BSR) cycle to obtain UL grants for the first two PING requests. Starting from the third PING request, the size of the proactive allocation window for giving UL allocation to the PING request is uniquely configured, using a 'delay timer' and a 'proactive allocation window.' The delay timer is to delay the start of the proactive allocation window from the transmission time interval (TTI) in which the packet type is detected. The proactive allocation window is the number of TTIs over which the proactive allocations are given to a UE.
