Wireless communications techniques related to buffer status reports (BSRs) are provided. In some aspects, a method of wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE) includes: determining a buffer status report (BSR) condition is present based on a condition of an application; determining an uplink grant is not available for the UE to transmit data, related to the application, in a buffer of the UE within a period of time; removing the data from the buffer; resubmitting, to the buffer, at least a portion of the data removed from the buffer; and transmitting, to a base station (BS), at least one of a BSR or a scheduling request (SR) based at least in part on the resubmitting the at least the portion of the data to the buffer. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.

Traffic aware regular buffer status reports

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a base station. The UE may receive, from the base station, parameters associated with a set of frequency bands, the parameters indicating a priority of each frequency band of the set of frequency bands. The UE may then measure, based on the priority, one or more frequencies of at least one frequency band of the set of frequency bands. The UE may then transmit, after a time delay and to the base station, a measurement report including measurements of one or more frequency bands of the set of frequency bands.

Techniques for enhanced handling of network measurements

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive information indicating a timer value of a timer associated with discarding a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) service data unit (SDU). The UE may determine that a timer modification condition is satisfied. The UE may modify the timer value based at least in part on the determination that the timer modification condition is satisfied. The UE may transmit a communication using the modified timer value. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may identify radio access technology (RAT) state information associated with the UE, the RAT state information including an indication of whether the UE is operating in a steady state or is operating in a transition state. An indication to retransmit information for SPS resources can be received from an access point. It can be determined that a SPS activation for the SPS resources is not received from the access point. Processing retransmissions in semi-persistently scheduled wireless communications

Methods and apparatuses for wireless communication are provided. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may obtain a gain value based on a difference between an reference signal receive power (RSRP) value of a first antenna and an RSRP value of a second antenna, where the first antenna may be located on an exterior of the UE and the second antenna may be located within an interior of the UE. Further, in some aspects, the UE may obtain an antenna gain value based at least on a random access channel (RACH) power value and a reference signal receive quality (RSRQ) offset value. Additionally, in some aspects, the UE may obtain the antenna gain value based on one of a matching entry in a memory log or a minimum of a maximum antenna gain value or an aggregation of a RACH gain value and an RSRQ offset value.

Methods and apparatuses for determining the gain of vehicle antennas

Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to identifying a cell as a handover candidate in coverage areas based on decoding a secondary synchronization signal and/or a primary broadcast channel of the handover candidate cell. An example method generally includes initiating a search for a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) for a first cell of one or more handover candidate cells, and reporting the first cell as a handover candidate in a measurement report if the SSS for the first cell is detected a threshold number of times.

Handover candidate cell identification and radio link failure (RLF) mitigation in coverage areas

Enhanced techniques may be used for identifying and reporting collision-based scenarios. In one example, a wireless modem measures a number of signals received from a number of devices that are located on the same chip as the wireless modem when a physical link between the wireless modem and an accelerometer is broken, the accelerometer is inoperable, or a combination thereof. In the event of a collision event, the wireless modem may use the measured signals to determine that the collision event has occurred and may transmit an indication of the collision event. For instance, the wireless modem may use signals from an audio sensor, a motion sensor, a global navigation satellite system (GNSS), or the like.

Detection and reporting of a collision event

A method, an apparatus, and a computer-readable medium for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus may include memory and at least one processor, coupled to the memory, configured to determine a power parameter associated with communication using a first radio access technology (RAT). The at least one processor may be further configured to determine a quality parameter associated with the communication using the first RAT. The at least one processor may be further configured to apply, based on the quality parameter, an offset to the power parameter to form a modified power parameter. The at least one processor may be further configured to transmit a measurement report including the modified power parameter. The apparatus may be a wireless device, such as a user equipment (UE) and, more specifically, a high gain UE.

Techniques for managing inter-radio access technology handovers for high gain user equipment

A multi-antenna device configured for addressing connection performance issues in UL/DL imbalance scenarios is described. The device may identify a potential UL/DL imbalance scenario and select signal measurements associated with either a primary antenna or a diversity antenna for mobility procedures and/or mobility measurement reporting based on the detected imbalance. In one example, the device may receive a signal at both the primary and a diversity antenna and may identify an imbalance between the primary and diversity signal measurements. The device may then compare the identified imbalance with an imbalance threshold and may select the primary or diversity signal measurement for mobility procedures and/or measurement reporting based at least in part on the comparison. For instance, if the imbalance is greater than the imbalance threshold the device may use the primary signal measurements and may otherwise use the stronger of the primary or diversity signal measurements.

Enhanced connection performance in UL/DL imbalance scenarios

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for adaptive antenna switching for measurements, for example, in high gain automotive devices. According to certain aspects, a method is provided herein for wireless communications. The method generally includes selecting, based on one or more conditions, a first measurement configuration that uses at least an external antenna mounted on a surface of a vehicle for one or more measurements or a second measurement configuration that uses at least an internal antenna associated with the vehicle for the one or more measurements; performing the one or more measurements using the selected measurement configuration; and sending a report based on the one or more measurements. The techniques for measurement configuration selection may allow the device to achieve the benefits of both the high gain external antenna and the lower gain internal antenna(s) depending on the current conditions.

Methods and apparatus for adaptive measurement configuration selection in a vehicular device

An apparatus for selective usage of antennas for measurement purposes is provided. When the signal strength of the primary antenna is less than a signal strength threshold or the signal quality of the primary antenna is less than a signal quality threshold, the apparatus may determine at least one of whether a first difference between the signal strength of the primary antenna and the diversity antenna satisfies a first criteria or whether a second difference between the signal quality of the primary antenna and the diversity antenna satisfies a second criteria. When at least one of the first difference satisfies the first criteria or the second difference satisfies the second criteria, the apparatus may calculate the signal strength and signal quality of the diversity antenna for measurement evaluations and path-loss calculation based on the signal strength and signal quality of the primary antenna.

Selective usage of antennas for improved call performance

Wireless communication is disclosed using a wireless communication device, such as a user equipment (UE) having a high-gain antenna. In a cell that uses at least one of reference signal received power (RSRP)-based cell selection or RSRP-based cell reselection, the wireless communication device may determine an offset RSRP by applying an offset to a measured RSRP if a signal quality of communications from a serving base station of the cell fails to satisfy a signal quality threshold. The UE may initiate at least one of a cell selection or cell reselection operation based on the offset RSRP.

Performance improvements for high gain devices

Certain aspects of the claimed invention generally relate to a network dynamically configuring one or more cells based on signal quality measurements received from all antennas of a receiver-limited UE. The receiver-limited UE may have a number of receivers that is less than or equal to a number of antennas of the UE. Further, the UE may be capable of operating in a CA mode. Dynamically configuring the one or more cells based, at least in part, on the received signal quality measurements may allow the UE to operate on M&#xd7;N MIMO on the Pcell or Scell.

Methods, systems, and devices are described for triggering an antenna switch. A settling time may be identified, and the antenna switch may be delayed based at least in part on the identified settling time.
