Fire retardant engine casing apparatus are disclosed. An example engine casing includes an inner shell circumferentially surrounding blades of a fan, a compressor, or a turbine, an outer shell positioned around the inner shell, and a fire retardant material between the inner shell and the outer shell.

An example compressor bleed slot apparatus includes an annular compressor casing, a blade row mounted for rotation about a centerline axis inside the compressor casing, a bleed slot passing through the forward section of the compressor casing, wherein the bleed slot is bounded by inboard and outboard walls defined within the compressor casing, the bleed slot extending along a slot axis, at least a portion of the bleed slot lying within an axial extent of the blade row, an array of struts interconnecting the inboard and outboard walls, and an annular supplemental flange extending radially outward from the forward section of the compressor casing, wherein at least a portion of the supplemental flange is axially positioned within an axial extent of the bleed slot, wherein the supplemental flange includes a necked-down portion adjacent the forward section of the compressor casing, the necked-down portion positioned axially between an inlet of the bleed slot and an outlet of the bleed slot.

A compressor bleed slot apparatus includes: an annular compressor casing; a stator vane row disposed inside the compressor casing; a blade row mounted for rotation about a centerline axis inside the compressor casing, axially downstream of the stator row; a bleed slot passing through the compressor casing, wherein the bleed slot is bounded by inboard and outboard walls defined within the compressor casing, the bleed slot having an inlet positioned axially between the stator vane row and the blade row, the bleed slot extending along a slot axis, at least a portion of the bleed slot lying within an axial extent of the blade row; an annular array of struts interconnecting the inboard and outboard walls; and an annular supplemental flange extending radially outward from the compressor casing, wherein at least a portion of the supplemental flange is axially positioned within an axial extent of the bleed slot.

Bleed air system includes bleed port with annular bleed slot in a compressor inner casing surrounding flowpath circumscribing a centerline in compressor inner casing. Inner and outer slot walls bound bleed flow passage through the bleed slot. Annular array of arcuate shields radially inwardly bound the bleed flow passage downstream and aft of inner slot wall. Each shield includes integrally-formed axially forward retaining portion, downstream portion, and upstream portion therebetween. Clipping means clips retaining portion to aft facing radial wall of annular lip on inner slot wall. Clipping means may be arcuate or annular clip having forward annular portion attached to annular aft flange substantially perpendicular to the centerline and forward annular portion disposed in annular slot extending into inner slot wall. Forward annular portion and annular slot may be cylindrical or conical. Clip may include aft conical portion radially offset from forward conical portion and transition portion therebetween.

Clipped heat shield assembly

A motion estimation algorithm finds the best match for a given block or macroblock so that the resulting error signal has very low energy level which is computed, for e.g., by the SAD method. The motion estimation algorithm also provides for an optional sub-pixel level estimation and an inter4v search, and allows for restricting the number of searches for a Frame-frame ME (motion estimation) using Top-Top and Bottom-Bottom field MEs. The algorithm provides for a selective early exit and enables selecting a suitable search area with N candidate points (4 to 8) for starting the search. The search is conducted progressively till a minimum error signal (low energy level signal) is reached. The candidate points for search may be in a diamond shaped configuration, and there may be a plurality of successive diamond configurations, the number of which is configurable. The invention has application in MPEG-4 and H.264 standards.

Fast motion-estimation scheme

A method for designing a multi-threaded processing operation that includes, e.g., multimedia encoding/decoding, uses an architecture having multiple processors and optional hardware accelerators. The method includes the steps of: identifying a desired chronological sequence of processing stages for processing input data including identifying interdependencies of said processing stages; allotting each said processing sage to a processor; staggering the processing to accommodate the interdependencies; selecting a processing operation based on said allotting to arrive at a subset of possible pipelines that offer low average processing time; and, choosing one design pipeline from said subset to result in overall timing reduction to complete said processing operation. The invention provides a multi-threaded processing pipeline that is applicable in a System-on-Chip (SoC) using a DSP and shared resources such as DMA controller and on-chip memory, for increasing the throughput. The invention also provides an article which is programmed to execute the method.
