A spinal treatment system includes a constraint device having an upper tether portion, a lower tether portion and a compliance member coupled therebetween. The upper tether portion is coupled with a superior spinous process of a spinal segment in a patient and the lower tether portion is coupled with an inferior spinous process or sacrum of the spinal segment. The length or tension in the constraint device is adjustable so that the construct of the tether portions and the compliance member provides a force resistant to flexion of the spinal segment. The system also includes a first prosthesis coupled with the spinal segment, wherein the constraint device modulates loads borne by the prosthesis or by tissue adjacent thereto.

Surgical tether apparatus and methods of use

A hybrid control system includes a control agent and a control engine. The control engine is configured to install a master plan to the control agent. The master plan includes a plurality of high-level tasks. The control agent is configured to operate according to the master plan to, for each high-level task of the high-level tasks, obtain one or more low-level controls and to perform the one or more low-level controls to realize the high-level task. The control agent is configured to operate according to the master plan to transition between the plurality of high-level tasks thereby causing a seamless transition between operating at least partially autonomously and operating at least partially based on input from the tele-operator, based at least on context for the control agent, to operate at least partially autonomously and at least partially based on input from the tele-operator during execution of the master plan.

Advanced control system with multiple control paradigms

In general, this disclosure describes techniques for a health management system that schedules medical appointments based on a dialog with a user (e.g., a patient), clinical guideline information, and/or other information. The health management system may engage in a dialog with the user, the dialog including requests from the health management system for audio input to the user device and audio input from the user in response to each request. The health management system may extract information from the audio input and compare the extracted information to clinical guideline information to determine one or more probable health conditions of the user. The health management system may determine a time allotment, identify a health care provider type and a platform for a medical appointment based on the one or more probable health conditions.

A system comprises one or more observation stations. Each observation station of the one or more observation stations comprises a corresponding set of one or more sensors. Additionally, the system comprises one or more physical machines that implement a computation engine configured to receive first observation data from the one or more observation stations. The computation engine may use the first observation data to train a machine learning system. The computation engine may subsequently use the trained machine learning system to provide feedback regarding an additional instance of the observation subject. The computation engine outputs the feedback.

A method for coupling a prosthesis to a spinal segment in a patient includes the steps of selecting first and second reference points disposed along the spinal segment and pre-operatively measuring a target distance. The target distance extends between the first and second reference points while the patient is in a preferred posture such as the standing position. A prosthesis is coupled to the spinal segment and the prosthesis is then intra-operatively adjusted in order to set the distance between the first and second reference points based on the target distance.

Methods and apparatus for coupling a prosthesis to a spinal segment

Devices, systems and methods are used to decouple proximal movement of a catheter supply lead or tubing from the tissue-embedded catheter. A catheter decoupling device comprises a catheter hub, sled and track, wherein the hub comprises a proximal end configured to receive a catheter fluid supply device, and a distal end configured to receive a catheter, the sled receives and retains the hub, the track receives and retains the hub; and, the hub has a limited range of back-and-forth motion relative to the track.

In an aspect is a nerve block catheter system comprising a dual-sheath catheter comprising an inner sheath and an outer sheath, wherein distal ends of the sheaths are connected, the inner sheath defines a fluid delivery lumen, and the outer sheath comprises a tissue lock movable between a collapsed position and an extended position, wherein the tissue lock forms a reversible tissue anchor when in the extended position, and an actuator connected to the proximate end of the catheter and configured to activate the tissue lock by sliding the outer sheath length-wise relative to the inner sheath.

A spinal implant for limiting flexion of the spine includes a tether structure for encircling adjacent spinal processes. Usually, a pair of compliance members will be provided as part of the tether structure for elastically limiting flexion while permitting an extension. A cross-member is provided between the compliance member or other portions of the tether structure to stabilize the tether structure and prevent misalignment after implantation.

Methods and systems for laterally stabilized constraint of spinous processes

A method for improving shear loading capacity of a spinal segment having a superior vertebra, an inferior vertebra or sacrum, and a facet joint, includes providing a constraint device having an upper portion, a lower portion and a compliance member coupled therebetween. The constraint device is coupled with the spinal segment such that the upper portion of the constraint device is coupled with the superior vertebra and the lower portion of the constraint device is coupled with the inferior vertebra or a sacrum. The constraint device provides a force resistant to flexion of the spinal segment. Also, length or tension in the constraint device is adjusted so as to increase engagement between an upper portion of the facet joint and a lower portion of the facet joint, thereby increasing capacity of the spinal segment to resist shear loading.

Methods and apparatus for improving shear loading capacity of a spinal segment

Methods and apparatus for controlling flexion in a spinal segment of a patient include performing a spinal fusion procedure on a pair of adjacent vertebrae in the spinal segment and implanting a constraint device into the patient. Adjusting length or tension in the constraint device allows the constraint device to provide a force a force resistant to flexion of the spinal segment undergoing fusion. The constraint device also modulates loads borne by the spinal segment undergoing fusion or tissue adjacent thereto.

A system for restricting spinal flexion includes superior and inferior tether structures joined by a pair of compliance members. Compliance members comprise tension members which apply a relatively low elastic tension on the tether structures. By placing the tether structures on or over adjacent spinous processes, flexion of a spinal segment can be controlled in order to reduce pain.
