A system, method, and computer-readable storage medium, of which the method includes receiving an image of a tool including a consumable object from a remote device via a network at a processor, decoding the image to identify the consumable object, using the processor, and determining a degradation characteristic, a consumption, or both for the consumable object by providing the decoded image to a neural network. The degradation characteristic represents a mode of degradation and the consumption represents an amount of degradation.

System for characterizing oilfield tools

The preferred embodiments are directed toward methods and apparatus for manufacturing components for earth-boring drill bits. In the preferred embodiments, a portion of the component is coated and the component is exposed to a carbon-rich environment at an elevated temperature. During this exposure, some portions of the component are not coated. The preferred embodiments further comprise coating the areas that were exposed to the carbon-rich environment and exposing the component to an elevated temperature in an environment with carbon present. In one embodiment, a drill leg is coated (with the exception of the journal pin) and then exposed to a carbon-rich environment at an elevated temperature. In this embodiment, the journal pin is then coated and the drill leg is exposed to an elevated temperature with a percentage of carbon that is less than the initial carbon-rich environment.

Self relieving seals of this invention comprise an elastomeric seal body having a first sealing surface and a second sealing surface for contact with respective drill bit sealing surfaces. The seal includes a pair of external surfaces that each extend along the seal body between the first and second sealing surfaces. The seal includes one or more relief ports that are disposed through the seal body and that have openings through each of the seal body external surfaces. The relief port can be specially configured, e.g., have different diameter sections of constant or variable dimensions, to provide a degree of control over pressure equalization through the seal body when the seal is loaded within the drill bit. The seal may include an element, e.g., solid, tubular, or porous, disposed within the relief port to provide a further desired degree of control over pressure equalization through the seal when the seal is loaded within the drill bit. Surface features, on the seal or the drill bit, can be provided to offset the relief port opening from the rock bit so that it is not blocked off. The seal can include a valve mechanism to provide a further degree of control over fluid passage through the relief port.
