A process for preparation of catalyst to produce ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) from high refractory sulfur feedstock. The catalyst composition comprises a modified alumina carrier, impregnated by metal of group VIB is in the range of 15-25% and metal of group VIIIB is in the range of 1-5% as oxides. The catalyst prepared in the present invention produces highly dispersed MoS2 active sites on the modified carrier. The catalyst produces ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) along with improved cetane, density reduction and endpoint reduction.

The present invention relates to a composition of attrition resistant attrition resistant catalyst particularly for FCC catalyst additives such as ZSM-5, bottom cracking additive/residue upgradation additive and GSR additive comprising aluminum phosphate binder wherein said binder comprising of 1.5 to 2.9 moles equivalent of monobasic acid for each mole of mono-aluminum phosphate (MAP). The present invention relates to a catalyst precursor composition comprising a first component having active sites, said first component being at least one of the surface modified clay and/or pore modified zeolite; and a second component being metal species comprising of at least one metal selected from Group VI B and at least one metal selected from VIII B and the second component is in intimate contact with the active sites of the first component. The present invention also provides a process for preparing the catalyst precursor composition. The present invention also relates to a catalyst composition and process of preparation thereof by using the catalyst precursor. More particularly, the present invention provides a catalyst composition suitable for converting hydrocarbon feeds to diesel range product.

A process for the preparation of hydrotreating catalyst which comprises of a Group VIB metal and Group VIII metal on an active composite carrier for the removal of sulfur from gas oil feed stocks, wherein the said carrier comprises of a phosphated alumina and an ultra stable Y zeolite and the metal components mostly reside on the alumina, said process comprising the steps of impregnation of chelated metal complex preferentially on to the alumina component of the composite support and subjecting the composite catalyst to a high-speed ball milling. The catalyst obtained by the process of the present invention consists of the active metals in the nanoparticle range (less than 50 &#x212b;) while also retaining the zeolite properties of the composite carrier and the catalyst produces less than 50 ppm sulfur from gas oil feed stocks containing greater than 1 wt % sulfur under typical commercial operating conditions.
