Apparatuses and methods of securing Global Navigation Satellite Systems are disclosure. In one exemplary embodiment, a mobile device may comprise: a communication interface configured to monitor signals from a plurality of satellites, a processor configured to determine impairment of one or more satellites in the plurality of satellites using the signals form the plurality of satellites, a memory configured to store a status of the determined impairment of one or more satellites in the plurality of satellites, and the communication interface that transmits the status of the determined impairment of the one or more satellites in the plurality of satellites to a server. The processor further determines a position of the mobile device using the status of the determined impairment of one or more satellites in the plurality of satellites, and stores the determined position and a corresponding digital certificate indicative of authenticity of the determined position in a memory.

Techniques for Ultra Wide-Lane (UWL) Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning a mobile device may include obtaining, using a multi-band GNSS receiver of the mobile device: a first carrier-phase measurement of a first GNSS signal on a first GNSS carrier frequency, and a second carrier-phase measurement of a second GNSS signal on second GNSS carrier frequency. Techniques may further comprise providing a position estimate of the mobile device, wherein: the position estimate is determined from a wide-lane (WL) combination of the first carrier-phase measurement and the second carrier-phase measurement, and the WL combination has a combined carrier phase noise that is less than a pseudo-range noise of the first carrier-phase measurement and a pseudo-range noise of the second carrier-phase measurement.

Ultra wide-lane (UWL) real-time kinematic (RTK)

Techniques described herein leverage multi-constellation, multi-frequency (MCMF) functionality to provide a local Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) solution for a mobile device in which an initial highly-accurate location determination for the mobile device can be leveraged to generate RTK correction information that can be used to make subsequent, highly-accurate location determinations without the need for measurement information from an RTK base station. This RTK correction information can be applied to Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) measurements taken by the mobile device over a long period of time while retaining the ability to produce highly-accurate location determinations for the mobile device. And additional correction information may be obtained and applied to the RTK correction information to extend this period of time even longer.

RTK GNSS positioning without base stations

A Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) solution is provided to mobile devices having multi-constellation, multi-frequency (MCMF) functionality, in which a single base station may have a baseline much farther than traditional base station. To enable this, embodiments account for differences in atmospheric effects between the rover station and base station when determining a GNSS position fix for a mobile device (rover station), allowing for a separate tropospheric delay error for a base station to be determined. Embodiments may use additional satellite measurements for which no RTK correction is available, and may further use orbital clock correction for these additional satellite measurements.

Ultra-long baseline RTK

Embodiments herein provide for a Low-Frequency (LF) broadcast system that improves on the LORAN-C system to help optimize the use of available spectrum while modernizing the signal structure of broadcast signals. In particular, embodiments can utilize an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signal structure to broadcast timing and data signals in successive symbols of an OFDM resource block. Signals can include, for example, comb-1, comb-2, or comb-3 signal structures. Other signal aspects such as muting schemes, modulation, frequency offsets, and the like may vary, depending on desired functionality.

The present invention relates generally to methods and apparatuses for estimating and correcting for multipath in GNSS navigation systems. According to some aspects, the invention operates in situations where position and estimated position error are reasonably stable so as to detect when large multipath errors are present with confidence. After detection, the slowly varying biases from multipath or other un-modeled sources can be modeled separately from the navigation state. The measurements are kept in the solution without biasing the navigation state thereby ignoring the long-term biases for use over short-term periods with minimized pseudorange error when necessary.

The present invention provides apparatus and methods for improving satellite navigation by assessing the dynamic state of a platform for a satellite navigation receiver and using this data to improve navigation models and satellite tracking algorithms. The dynamic state of the receiver platform may be assessed using only accelerometer data, and does not require inertial navigation system integration. The accelerometers may not need to be very accurate and may not need to be aligned and/or accurately calibrated.

GNSS performance enhancement using accelerometer-only data

The present invention is related to location positioning systems, and more particularly, to a method and apparatus for making accuracy improvements to a GPS receiver's navigation calculations. According to a first aspect, the invention includes maintaining a table of height attributes for major cities and urban areas around the world (contour table) in the GNSS chipset. The information in the table preferably includes latitude, longitude of the city along with height attributes of those cities, such as the average, min, max height and region boundary etc. Additional information such as average gradient could also be saved in the table. According to further aspects, when GPS signals are degraded in environments such as urban canyons, the height information can be obtained from the table and used to improve the navigation solution.

Method and apparatus of using height aiding from a contour table for GNSS positioning

Systems and methods for monitoring navigation state errors are provided. In this regard, a representative system, among others, includes a receiver that is configured to receive GPS signals and calculate pseudorange (PR) residuals, the receiver including a navigation state error manager that is configured to: calculate a distance traveled by the receiver having the PR residuals, determine whether a navigation state has errors based on the calculated PR residuals and calculated distance, and responsive to determining that the navigation state has errors, send an error message indicating that the navigation state has errors.

Systems and methods for monitoring navigation state errors

The present invention provides methods of performing GNSS receivers' satellite signal acquisition and TTFF while taking advantage of SBAS signals. Due to a SBAS satellite's geostationary position and typically strong signal, the SBAS satellite signal can be acquired more quickly than a GPS satellite signal. Once a SBAS satellite signal is acquired the Doppler frequency search uncertainty may be reduced for remaining GNSS satellites which are to be acquired. Furthermore, a satellite search list may be optimized to search for satellites close to the line of sight (LOS) of the SBAS satellite for which a signal has been acquired, in receiver 'warm' and 'hot' start modes. Moreover, since a SBAS signal sub-frame is only one second long, which is shorter than six seconds for a GPS signal sub-frame, synchronization of the SBAS signal sub-frame may be achieved faster than for GPS signals. With aided time information, a receiver may compute the absolute time of week (TOW) from a sub-frame synchronized SBAS signal. Therefore, TTFF can be achieved without necessarily waiting for TOW to be decoded from a GPS signal.

Utilizing SBAS signals to improve GNSS receiver performance

The present invention is related to position calculation and navigation systems, and more particularly, to a method and apparatus for making accuracy improvements to a GPS receiver's navigation solutions. According to a first aspect, selective cartography information from a map database accessed by a GPS receiver from a location-aiding device is integrated into the position calculations performed by the GPS receiver.
