A gas discharge lamp has an inner bulb with a discharge vessel with two sealing sections thereon, from which electrodes protrude into the discharge vessel, each electrically connected with a conductor in the associated sealing section to supply current to the electrodes. The lamp also has an outer bulb surrounding the discharge vessel, leaving a cavity therebetween. Close to at least one of the electrodes in or near a transitional area between the discharge vessel and the associated sealing section on an outside of the inner bulb is arranged potential-free a conductive structure which on application of a voltage to the electrodes influences the electrical field adjacent the electrodes such that a discharge arc travels from the electrode first in the direction of a wall section of the discharge vessel adjacent the electrode and then over the inside of the wall toward the other electrode.

Gas discharge lamp

It is provided a lamp, particularly halogen lamp, for a headlight of a motor vehicle, comprising a light source () for emitting mainly white light, a mainly transparent envelope () encapsulating the light source () and a filter element () provided at the envelope (), wherein the filter element () is adapted for deflecting visible light of a predefined wavelength interval such, that mainly blue light can be provided above a bright/dark-cutoff (). Since the deflected bluish light is above the bright/dark-cutoff () an oncoming driver recognizes earlier the light. At the same time the oncoming driver is not blinded by the blue light above the bright/dark-cutoff (), since not the whole emitted light () but only a smaller wavelength interval is directed above the bright/dark-cutoff ().

Lamp for a headlight of a motor vehicle

A high pressure gas discharge lamp has electrodes that project into a discharge space surrounded by a discharge wall. The discharge space has a filling of rare gas and metal halides. The metal halide composition comprises halides of sodium and scandium with a mass ratio of halides of Sodium and Scandium of 0.9-1.5. In order to provide a lamp that can be easily manufactured and is well suited for operation at reduced power, the discharge vessel wall is of externally and internally cylindrical shape. The lamp may be manufactured by providing a cylindrical tube of quartz material, heating the tube at two distant portions and forming grooves there, inserting two electrodes into the tube and heating and pinching the tube at both ends to seal the discharge space. Manufacture is carried out without a bulb forming step such that the discharge space remains in externally and internally cylindrical shape.

Discharge lamp with improved discharge vessel

A lamp () for an automotive headlamp and a method for manufacturing such kind of a lamp () is provided, wherein the lamp () comprises a burner () for emitting light, a metal holder () connected to the burner () for supporting the burner (), a first socket part () made from a heat-resistant plastic material, which is connected to the burner (), and a second socket part (), through which a part of the burner (), which is connected to a first electrical pole (), is led for connecting the burner () to a voltage source, wherein the second socket part () is arranged adjacent to the first socket part () such, that at least one insulating gap () for providing voltage resistance in mainly radial and/or axial direction is provided. Due to the first socket part () it is possible to receive the hot burner () by the socket without impairing the heat resistance, wherein the second socket part () may be made from a cheaper material. This leads to a reduction of production costs without impairing the heat resistance or the voltage resistance provided by the insulating gap () between the first socket part () and the second socket part ().

High-pressure discharge lamp and a method of manufacturing a high-pressure discharge lamp

A gas-discharge lamp () is described having an inner envelope () comprising a discharge vessel () and two tubular sections () arranged on the discharge vessel, having two electrodes () that project from the tubular sections () into the discharge vessel () and that, to enable them to be supplied with power, are electrically connected to respective electrical conductors () that extend through the associated tubular sections () and that are enclosed in the tubular sections () with a gastight seal along a sealing section (). The lamp () has an outer envelope () that is connected at each of its ends to respective ones of the tubular sections () of the inner envelope () and that surrounds the discharge vessel () while leaving an outer cavity () between itself () and the discharge vessel (). Arranged on the outside of the inner envelope (), at least in a region or regions, is a conductive coating () that is conductively connected, inside the outer envelope (), to one () of the electrical conductors. Also described is a corresponding method of producing a gas-discharge lamp ().

Gas-discharge lamp

Automotive headlight lamps of different kinds have identical burners and upper base parts, but lower base parts of different structures. The upper base part has reference elements, for example, a securing ring, for positioning the lamp at a headlight. The lower base parts vary from one kind of lamp to another, having, for example, different connection devices for electrical contacts. In the lamp manufacturing process, a burner is inserted into an upper base part and, preferably, after having been oriented with respect to a reference element, is fixed in position. Lower base parts including the electrical connection device and having a desired shape are connected with the upper base parts. A two-piece embodiment of the lower base part is also possible, enabling electrical contact elements to be readily accommodated.

Lamps with variable lower base

An auxiliary antenna arranged around the discharge vessel of a gas discharge lamp comprising an outer bulb enclosing this discharge vessel is provided on the outer bulb. The advantages of an auxiliary start antenna can thus be enjoyed without being counterbalanced by an increased sodium diffusion.

The invention relates to a lamp ( ) with a reflector ( ) and a light source ( ). The reflector ( ) has a reflector neck ( ) which serves to accommodate the light source ( ) and into which the relevant light source ( ) is introduced and fixed, possibly after an alignment. Incandescent lamps and in particular gas discharge lamps may be used for the light source ( ). In known lamps, the light source ( ) used is fastened to the reflector neck ( ) by means of a cement. The light source ( ) is aligned in the reflector ( ), is to be kept in the desired position, and is fixed in place only after the long drying time has elapsed. To simplify the manufacture, according to the invention, a sleeve ( ) is provided for fastening to the reflector neck ( ) and for accommodating the light source ( ). A mechanical fastening of the light source ( ) to the reflector ( ) can be achieved in a surprisingly simple manner by means of an additional sleeve ( ).

Lamp

The capped electric lamp has a quartz glass lamp vessel (1) having first and second neck-shaped portions (2,3) with respective seals (4,5). A glass envelope (9) surrounds the lamp vessel and is secured thereto. A clamping member (20) surrounds the envelope in a clamping manner. A fixation member (32) of a lamp cap (30) is welded to the clamping member. The clamping member (20) is an undulated metal body, the crests of its creases constituting regions (22) which are spaced from the envelope (9) and in which welds to the fixation member (32) are made. Its troughs constitute clamping zones (21) which hold the envelope. The clamping member (20) allows for the application of a relatively wide envelope (9), which may enter the lamp cap (30).

The capped high pressure discharge lamp includes a light source (1) having a lamp vessel (1') with a first neck shaped portion (2) to which a lamp cap (30) is fixed. A connection conductor (7) runs alongside the discharge vessel to connect a second current supply conductor (5) extending from a second neck shaped portion (3) to a second contact member (36) of the cap. The lamp vessel (1') is contained by a tubular outer envelope (20), which is filled with air and does not envelope the connection conductor (7). The outer envelope (20, 50) has a narrowing portion (21, 52, 51) which encloses the second current supply conductor (5) or a neck shaped portion (2, 3). The outer envelope is maintained. The lamp is of a simple construction which allows for optimizing the light output or the temperature of the lamp vessel.

Capped high-pressure discharge lamp

The capped high-pressure discharge lamp has a discharge vessel having opposite neck-shaped portions. A tubular glass sleeve envelopes the discharge vessel and has constrictions coupling the sleeve to a respective neck-shaped portion. The sleeve has an end-portion adjacent a constriction at the side thereof which is remote from the other constriction, in which end portion a pinch is present. A clamping member having lugs which hold the pinch is secured to a mounting member which is fixed to a cap. The pinch provides for a mechanically strong portion to secure the discharge vessel to the cap. The construction is able to withstand heavy shocks which may occur during transport.

The capped electric lamp has a glass lamp vessel (1) having first and second neck-shaped portions (2,3). An outer glass envelope (8) has a narrowed portion (9) where it is coupled to the first neck-shaped portion (2). A metal sleeve (10) has a clamping zone (11) which clampingly holds the outer envelope (8), and a welding zone (12) to which tongues (21) of a fixation member (20) which is fixed in a lamp cap (30) are welded. The metal sleeve (10) becomes narrower from the clamping zone (11) towards the first neck-shaped portion (2) up to the welding zone (12).

Capped electric lamp

The capped electric lamp has a quartz glass lamp vessel (1) with a first neck-shaped portion (2) which is kept fixed by the cap (20). First (4) and second (5) current supply conductors (4, 5) emanate from the neck-shaped portions (2 resp. 3) and are connected to contact members (24 resp. 25) of the cap, the second supply conductor (5) via a connecting conductor (7). The joint of the connection conductor (7) to a molybdenum end portion (5a) of the second supply conductor (5) is a butt weld (9). The joint is solid and reliable. An insulator tube (8) may be present around the connection conductor (7) and fixation means (10, 11 ) may be present to immobilize the tube.
