Two-component systems based on aqueous dispersions of hydrophilic epoxy adducts Ah having hydroxyl groups as reactive groups and unblocked difunctional or polyfunctional isocyanates B, said hydrophilic epoxy adducts Ah being selected from cationically stabilized hydrophilic epoxy adducts Ak, anionically stabilized hydrophilic epoxy adducts Aa and also nonionically stabilized epoxy adducts An and zwitterionically stabilized epoxy-amine adducts Aak.

Viscosity-stabilized aqueous polyester dispersions comprising an acid-functional polyester resin a, neutralizing agent b for the polyester resin a, the amount of neutralizing agent being sufficient to convert from 10 to 200% of the amount of substance of acid groups in the polyester resin a into salt groups by means of the amount of neutralizing agents added, the neutralizing agents being selected from ammonia and organic amines and also alkali metal hydroxides and alkaline earth metal hydroxides; if desired, an organic auxiliary solvent, silica in an amount such that the mass of SiO.sub.2 is from 0.1 to 50% of the mass of the polyester resin, and water. The dispersions are useful in coating compositions.

Self-crosslinking aqueous polymer dispersions comprising water-thinnable polyesters, vinyl polymers that have either carbonyl or hydrazine functional groups, and a crosslinker having at least two hydrazine or other groups which react with carbonyl groups or crosslinkers having at least two carbonyl groups; and where the vinyl polymer is prepared by free-radical-initiated emulsion polymerization in the presence of an aqueous solution or dispersion of the polyester.
