Fuel tank system especially for motor vehicles and method for controlling and monitoring said system

In an arrangement for limiting the fill level in a fuel tank having a filler neck with a tank inlet end, a valve flap is pivotally supported in the inlet end such that, in an open position, the valve flap is pivoted toward the fuel flow entering the tank during refueling and is connected, by way of a crank arm and a coupling rod to a float which is disposed in an essentially vertical guide tube. The coupling rod extends through the float and has spaced top and bottom stops providing for lost motion coupling between the float and the coupling rod whose weight is sufficient to keep the valve flap in an open position. When the fuel in the tank lifts the float and, after the float engages the top stop, lifts the coupling rod, closing movement of the valve flap is initiated which is then fully closed by the inflowing fuel utilizing the lost motion distance between the float and the bottom stop of the coupling rod.

Arrangement for limiting the fill level of a fuel tank

In a fuel tank for motor vehicles including a tank vent with a venting valve, which automatically closes when the fuel in the tank reaches a predetermined level and when the vehicle is in an upside down position, the venting valve includes a vent closing member and a float structure engaging to the vent closing member and having a buoyancy, which is variable depending on the amount of fuel contained in the tank.

Fuel tank for motor vehicles

A control arrangement for an auxiliary heater in motor vehicles is provided which consists of a preselection clock, a control unit and a control apparatus which are all arranged inside the vehicle, in which case the auxiliary heater can be time-programmed by way of the preselection clock. A time generator is used which generates a time signal representing the actual time and whose time signal is supplied to the preselection clock as well as to a time display arranged in the vehicle, and in the case of which the time programming is carried out via a portable transmitter.

Control arrangement for an auxiliary heater in motor vehicles

An elastic support system is disclosed for a fuel system of motor vehicles of the type equipped with a mixture-compressing internal-combustion engine and an electrically driven fuel pump, a fuel filter and an accumulator, in which case at least the fuel pump is to be arranged in proximity of the tank at the underbody. A roller vane pump is used as the fuel pump which operates with heavy pulsations and therefore, in addition to its mechanically caused operating noises, also generates pulsation noises. It therefore must be disconnected or isolated from the underbody with respect to vibrations. For this purpose, it is suggested by the invention to provide, between the fuel pump and a suspension member fastened at the underbody of the motor vehicle, a connecting element that is held at the fuel pump and can be suspended at the suspension member. The connecting element consists exclusively of rubber-elastic material and at least in the area between the fuel pump and the suspension member exhibits a low spring rate. The soft development of the connecting element ensures an effective disconnection of vibrations between the fuel pump and the underbody of the motor vehicle during use of the system.

Elastic support arrangement for a vehicle fuel pump or the like

A fuel tank, especially for motor vehicles, includes two shaped shells which include a shell bottom, shell walls and a continuous shell rim, the shell rims of the shaped shells being adapted to be welded together to thereby form a composite fuel tank structure. At least one of the bottoms of one of the shaped shells which forms one of the side walls of the composite fuel tank structure is provided with reinforcing ribs and an outwardly protruding bulge. Additionally, the bottom of the composite tank structure formed by a wall of one of the shaped shells includes a bulge. The bulges form flexurally soft deformation zone extending generally at right angles to the reinforcing ribs and generally parallel to a portion of the shell rim which extends generally parallel to the bottom of the composite tank for absorbing stresses.

Motor vehicle fuel tank

A fuel tank, preferably made of plastic material, to the filler neck of which an attachment base for a cap is so secured that dimensional tolerances as also dimensional changes caused by differing coefficients of temperature can be compensated by an elastic seal which is axially clamped therebetween; the attachment base is thereby axially supported against an abutment surface of the filler neck by means of an annular shoulder by way of an interposed elastic sealing means.

A device for venting fuel tanks, especially of automotive vehicles, of the type having a volume equalizing vessel arranged in an upper zone of the interior of the fuel tank that communicates with the atmosphere is provided with inertial operated blocking members for sealing orifices into the equalizing vessel that are disposed at an upstream side of the orifices into the equalizing vessel relative to the interior of the tank. Additional venting conduits may be provided that are preferably inclined height wise and may either be mounted interiorly of the equalizing vessel so as to extend outwardly through an end wall thereof into close proximity with an end wall of the fuel tank or may be externally formed as a unitary formation of the equalizing vessel. An auxiliary sump chamber may be provided in a central portion of the auxiliary chamber bottom wall beneath the conduit venting the equalizing vessel to the atmosphere so as to ensure spillage therethrough during righting of a vehicle containing the fuel tank from an inverted position.

Device for venting fuel tanks

A fuel feed pump arrangement which includes a housing serving for accommodating both an electric motor and a feed pump system coupled to the electric motor. A diaphragm is provided in the housing with the diaphragm maintaining a system pressure for a predetermined period of time after the drive motor of the pump system has been turned off.

Fuel feed pump

A tank closure mechanism, especially for a fuel tank of an automotive vehicle, with a locking tube pertaining to the cap proper and including a pressure plate and a gasket. The locking tube is rotatable by rotating the cap housing during locking operation of the cap by a latch of a lock cylinder but remains stationary after an unlocking during a rotation of the cap housing. A clamping ring exerting a tightening clamp is rotatable together with the locking tube. A compression spring of a bayonet catch presses against the clamping ring with the spring being supported on the cap and the pressure plate. The locking tube and pressure plate are fashioned so as to be bi-partite and the pressure plate extends over the locking tube with a sliding fit or the like.
