The apparatus provides simple and automatic preparation of sample units, in particular, closure of rotors with caps.

Completely automatic MAS-NMR apparatus

The invention concerns an NMR apparatus () comprising an NMR spectrometer () for sequential investigation of several samples in sample containers () of substantially identical geometrical design, at a measuring position () in the NMR spectrometer () comprising a supply line () for pneumatic supply of the sample containers () from a magazine () to the measuring position (). The apparatus is characterized in that the magazine () is disposed within a temperature-controlled cabinet, in particular, a cold chamber () and the supply line () can be heated. This substantially increases the throughput of samples of the NMR apparatus () with simple technical means.

The invention refers to a method of resonance spectroscopy for the analysis of statistical properties of samples, comprising the following steps: a) recording of a complex resonance frequency spectrum of each sample by means of phase sensitive quadrature detection; b) numerical differentiation of the recorded complex resonance frequency spectra versus frequency; c) determination of the absolute value of each differentiated complex resonance frequency spectrum (=fingerprint); d) allocation of each fingerprint to a point of a multidimensional point set; and e) performing a pattern analysis of the generated points for characterizing the statistical properties of the samples. The inventive method tolerates unintended variances of measurement in the recorded resonance frequency spectra, in particular caused by phase errors, and allows reliable automated spectral analysis.

Method of resonance spectroscopy for the analysis of statistical properties of samples

A nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy probe has a sample cell into and out of which a room temperature liquid sample may be directed. The cell is surrounded by a radio frequency coil that is used to perform NMR measurements of the liquid sample, and which is maintained at cryogenic temperatures. The coil is separated from the sample cell by a thermally insulative boundary, such as a vacuum. The sample may enter the cell through an input path, and may exit through an output path. The input path, output path and sample cell may be surrounded by a sheath through which flows room temperature gas. The ends of the sample cell may be tapered to promote thorough flow through the cell, and flow diverters may be included in the sample cell adjacent to the input and output paths to force flow to the outer wall of the sample cell.

The invention concerns a NMR measuring cell, in particular one for a flow-through probe head (1) and having at least a first inlet opening (10) to introduce a first injected or pumped reaction liquid into the measuring cell (1) and a second inlet opening (11) for introduction of a second injected or pumped reaction liquid into the measuring cell (1). The measuring cell (1)is subdivided by means of an at least partially movable wall (2) into at least a first chamber (17) which communicates with the first inlet opening and a second Chamber (19) which communicates with the second inlet opening (11). The at least partially movable wall (2) is configured and adapted in such a fashion that directed motion thereof leads to a mixing together of the first reaction liquid separately stored in the first chamber (17) with the second reaction liquid separately stored in the second chamber (19). In accordance with the invention a rapid and homogeneous mixing-together of the two reaction liquids is achieved in milliseconds.

An NMR sample holder comprises: a rotor 2,3 having a central bore 2e with an internal thread for at least a portion 2g of its length, , a hollow cylindrical sample tube 5 having a closed end and an open end, and having an outer diameter of less than 3 mm, the diameter being such as to enable the sample tube 5 to be accommodated within the central bore 2e in the said rotor, a centring screw 7 having an external thread 7g adapted to engage the said internal thread 2g of the central rotor bore and a central bore 7e adapted to accommodate the sample tube and to centre the sample tube in the central bore of the rotor, and a sealing member 6, 6' which is a sliding fit on the sample tube 5 and adapted to form a seal with an internal surface of the central bore of the rotor and with the sample tube 5.

In this manner, it is possible to measure the sample fluid (1) in a simple fashion, without the previous mixing of additives and, subsequent to the measurement, to regain the sample fluid in its original state, while allowing for the introduction of a calibration fluid (2) for field stabilization and for the quantitative comparison of line intensities.

Directly coupled sample changer system for fluid NMR spectroscopy

Apparatus is provided for coupled liquid chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy measurements. The apparatus includes a liquid chromatograph, an intermediate storage device for intermediately storing of components of a probe eluent and an NMR spectrometer. Selected intermediately stored components are fed to an NMR measurement unit. The intermediate storing device includes a number of capillary tubes, which are switchable by an automatically controlled valve arrangement for selectively receiving and delivering desired eluent components.

A test head for NMR spectrometers comprises an rf coil mounted on a carrier pipe and a shielding which extends over at least one section of two parallel conductors extending in the axial direction of the carrier pipe. In order to improve the effect of shielding, the shielding is connected, in an electrically conductive manner, to a turn section of the rf coil which contains a cold point. The shielding is thereby maintained at a fixed neutral potential, relative to the rf voltage supplied, with the result that no fields impairing the measuring accuracy and resolution of the spectrometer can any longer exist in the shielded area. The shielding may be connected directly to one turn section of the coil, for example by soldering.
