A storage battery has an axially extending housing divided into axially extending blocks each containing a plurality of individual cells. The housing has a pair of plus-minus contact terminals equal to the number of blocks with the terminals accessible from the exterior of the housing. Voltage is supplied to each pair of terminals corresponding to the sum of the voltage of the cells within one block. The charging operation in the individual blocks is performed consecutively in an appropriately shaped charging device having a charging voltage corresponding to the voltage of one block. The voltage of the individual blocks can be utilized in series or in parallel connection by an appropriate electronic arrangement within an electrically driven tool.

Contact terminal arrangement in a storage battery

In a drill chuck for securing the shank of a tool in a hand-held device, clamping jaws are mounted in a chuck member and bear radially outwardly against the conically shaped surface in a first sleeve into which the tool shank is inserted. A second sleeve is connected to the first sleeve and is threaded engagement with the chuck member. A locking or third sleeve is located about the first and second sleeves. The third sleeve is axially displaceable between a first position and a second position. In the first position the third sleeve engages the first and second sleeves so that the second sleeve cannot be rotated relative to the first sleeve or the chuck member and the tool shank can be locked by the clamping jaws. When the third sleeve is displaced into the second position, the second sleeve is released and can be rotated relative to the chuck member for axially displacing the first sleeve relative to the chuck member and adjusting the radial position of the clamping jaws.

Drill chuck for a hand-held device

A clamping chuck for securing a tool in a drilling device can be used for transmitting rotary and/or percussion motion to the tool. Independently adjustable guide jaws and at least one engaging element are mounted in the chuck. The guide jaws can hold a tool shank in a frictional engagement while the engaging element can fit into a recess in the surface of the tool shank. With such separate adjustment, the guide jaws can be used alone or in combination with the engaging element for holding the tool shank.

Clamping chuck for holding drilling and/or cutting tools

A tool holder for a drill capable of performing only rotary drilling or the combination of rotary and percussive drilling includes a tubular retainer member in which the shank of a tool can be inserted. Locking members mounted in the retainer member fit into recesses in the tool shank for holding it in the retainer member. During percussive drilling the locking members are axially displaceable in the recesses and the tool experiences a certain amount of axial play, however, when only rotary drilling is performed the locking members are held against axial displacement by stops so that the tool does not have any axial play. One stop forms a part of the retainer member and another stop is part of a member slidably displaceable relative to the retainer member.

Tool holder device

A hammer drill for performing percussive drilling or rotary drilling includes a housing and a tool holder mounted on and axially displaceable relative to the housing, the tool holder contains a retainer sleeve mounting locking member for securing the shank of a tool in the holder. When the hammer drill is used only for rotary drilling, the retainer sleeve is displaced into contacting engagement with the housing for centering the tool holder. The tool holder includes stops for securing the locking members against axial displacement during rotary drilling. One stop is movable relative to the retainer sleeve and can be locked in position. Another stop forms part of the retainer sleeve. The stops combine with the closed ends of the recesses in the tool shank for holding the locking members against axial displacement.
