The embodiments relate to a device and to a method for concentrating and detecting cells in flowing media, in particular magnetically marked cells in complex media such as blood. For this purpose, at least one magnet is used, said magnet being coupled to at least one magnetoresistance. In the method the cells are concentrated on a magnetoresistor by the least one external magnetic field having a pulsed operation.

Device and method for concentrating and detecting magnetically marked cells in laminarly flowing media

An arrangement for modifying the local intensity of x-ray radiation includes an x-ray filter with a plurality of absorption chambers, which may be filled by a ferrofluid. The absorption chambers are stacked in the x-ray beam direction. The x-ray filter includes a plurality of storage containers in which the ferrofluid may be stored. Each of the absorption chambers is connected to a respective one of the storage containers. The absorption of the x-ray radiation is achieved as a result of individual absorption chambers being filled with the ferrofluid. By filling a different number of absorption chambers, the local intensity of the x-ray radiation may be modified easily, precisely and quickly.

Arrangement and method for modifying the local intensity of x-ray radiation

In a method for measurement of very small local magnetic fields, in particular of local magnetic stray fields produced by magnetic beads, at least one magnetoresistive element is used. The element includes a hard-magnetic reference layer and a soft-magnetic sensor layer, whose magnetization can be rotated to a parallel position or an antiparallel position with respect to the reference layer magnetization, and whose output signal which can be tapped off is dependent on the position of the sensor layer magnetization with respect to the reference layer magnetization. In this case, the magnetization of the sensor layer is saturated by way of an external saturation magnetic field in a direction at right angles to the reference layer magnetization, after which the magnetic field is switched off or reduced to such an extent that the magnetization of the sensor layer passes through a critical point as it comes out of saturation, at which critical point the rotation direction of the sensor layer magnetization can be influenced via an existing local magnetic field that is to be measured. Magnetoresistive elements are provided in the associated device and, in particular, are connected to form a bridge.

According to at least one embodiment of the invention, at least two excitation fields with frequencies capable of being differently prescribed act on the object in the examination space, with the gradient field approximately vanishing in the examination space. In another embodiment, an arrangement includes a Maxwell coil pair for generating an inhomogeneous magnetic field with a prescribable magnetic field gradient, at least one device for exciting two auxiliary fields with different frequencies and a detection coil for recording the response signal.

Tomographic magnetic particle imaging (MPI) method and associated arrangement

A sensor for measuring mechanical changes in length, in particular a compressive and/or tensile stress sensor, includes a sandwich system with two flat and superposed electrodes separated from each other by a tunnel element (tunnel barrier), in particular an oxide barrier, a current being set up between the electrodes and through the tunnel barrier, one electrode consisting of a magnetostrictive layerwhich responds to elongation, and wherein the contributions of the anisotropies caused by mechanical tension are larger than those from the intrinsic anisotropies, relative changes in system resistance &#x394;R/R larger than 10% at room temperature being attained during elongation.

TMR sensor

A sensor device having a magnetostrictive force sensor is provided. To detect a force, the sensor device contains a TMR force sensor element having a magnetic detection layer of material having a magnetostriction coefficient &#x3bb;&#x2267;|5&#xb7;10|, a magnetically harder reference layer, and a tunnel barrier disposed between these layers. Established in the detection layer is a starting magnetization that relative to the magnetization of the reference layer, which is directed in the direction of force, forms an angle of other than 0&#xb0; and thus is rotated out of its starting position under the effect of the force.

Sensor device having a magnetostrictive force sensor

A digital magnetic memory cell device for read and/or write operations has a soft-magnetic read and/or write layer system formed of at least one soft-magnetic read and/or write layer, and a hard-magnetic reference layer system. The two systems are separated by a barrier layer. The soft-magnetic read and/or write layer is an amorphous layer with an induced or inducible uniaxial anisotropy.
