Described herein are techniques for performing a channel scan based on a mobility state of a device. The mobility state of a device relative to an access point may be determined using time-of-flight information. A channel scan may be performed based on the mobility state determination.

The present disclosure is generally related to a method for wireless software-defined networking. The method includes establishing a wireless link between an access point of a network and a plurality of client devices. The method includes generating a time schedule. The time schedule allocates a time window to each of the plurality of client devices. Each time window defines when a plurality of client devices is allowed to communicate within the network via the access point.

Described herein are techniques for selecting a subset of access points. In an example, time-of-flight information and signal strength information associated with a device may be received from multiple access points. A subset of the access points may be selected based on the time-of-flight information, signal strength information, and load information. The subset of access points may be instructed to respond to a probe request from the device.

In one implementation, an application-aware network control system determines that a network flow has been instantiated, derives network flow features associated with the network flow in response to determining the network flow has been instantiated, and provides the network flow features to an application identification module. In response to an application identification signal, the application-aware network control system ceases deriving the network flow features, and applies a flow action to the network flow based on an application identification report received from the application identification module.

A method of modifying a priority queue configuration of a network switch is described. The method comprises configuring a priority queue configuration, monitoring a network parameter, and adjusting the priority queue configuration based on the monitored network parameter.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide for packet processing in a network device. One method includes parsing incoming packets in a number of received flows to extract information from various packet fields. A number of bandwidth meters are used to track application bandwidth usage over a particular time interval in association with each flow. The meters are referenced with a hash algorithm and a drop probability for a particular packet is adjusted using the bandwidth meters and a number of factors.

A apparatus and method for automatically determining a valid IP configuration on a network analyzes traffic and determines valid subnets. A likely unused start IP address in a subnet is selected and checked to determine its availability. If not available, the start address is decremented, and tested again, until a valid address is obtained.

Apparatus and method for automatically obtaining a valid IP configuration in a local area network

A test instrument and method for testing switched LANs using a set of available MIBs in a switch is provided. The test instrument is designed for the characterization, diagnosis, and testing of a LAN having at least one switch which divides the network traffic into segments. A network device such as a switch will have a set of available MIBs, usually determined by the vendor, which may be accessed via an SNMP agent in the switch. Using the information selectively gathered from this set of available MIBs, various reports may be generated and displayed as reports which allow for a detailed analysis of switch parameters and traffic patterns. For any given report, optimal data items are chosen according to a predetermined hierarchy which provide the most pertinent, detailed information for each given report.

Method of testing a switched local area network

In a local area network (LAN) test instrument, a method for detecting duplicate internet protocol (IP) addresses without disrupting the LAN is provided. The LAN test instrument provides a method of choosing an IP address for itself without disrupting the ARP caches of devices connected to the LAN. Duplicate IP addresses between devices on the LAN may then be tested using a series of network broadcasts chosen to elicit responses from as many nodes on the network as possible because some nodes respond to some types of broadcasts and not others. A data base of the various nodes is collected and the newly arriving responses are dynamically compared with the responses already in the data base to detect duplicate IP addresses. Separate entries in the data base for devices having duplicate IP addresses are maintained and then displayed to the user of the LAN test instrument to selectably and reliably communicate with the devices having duplicate IP addresses for further diagnosis and correction.

Method of configuring a valid IP address and detecting duplicate IP

A method in a LAN test instrument for detecting proxy ARP agents and misconfigured routers in a TCP/IP LAN is provided. The method first allows for detection of routers running proxy ARP for the default route by issuing a single ARP command for a unique remote host. Because the target IP address chosen as a unique, non-existent device, the router will respond to the ARP request with a proxy ARP reply for its default route if this function is enabled. The method further allows for distinguishing between responses from actual devices having duplicate IP addresses and responses from misconfigured routers replying in proxy ARP for local hosts. The false duplicate IP addresses due to proxy ARP replies may be identified as phantom entries in a data base that can then be appropriately tagged or eliminated to display only the entries that correspond to actual physical devices to the user of the LAN test instrument.
