Novel power-management chips (PMCS) and a related method to increase the flexibility of power-management chips and to disburden a main controller of mobile electronic devices, such as e.g. a mobile phone, have been achieved. Key of the invention is to implement a microprocessor system on a power-management chip. This microprocessor, having a flash-memory and a RAM has either no or minimum interaction with a main controller of the mobile electronic device since the microprocessor on the PMC is controlling all power supply requirements of the mobile electronic device. The novel PMC is more flexible; since it is free programmable and customers can adapt their PMC more efficiently to the specific purposes of their application.

Actual switching DC&#x2014;DC converters have disadvantages in specific operating regions due to different reasons for power losses. Large switching transistors provide favorable efficiency at high output currents, but need high currents to charge/discharge the switching transistor's gate, resulting in poor efficiency at low output currents. Small transistors are more efficient at low currents, but are poor at high currents. The disclosed invention changes the size of the MOSFET switching transistors proportional to the output current, thus combining the efficiency of small transistors at low output currents and of large transistors at high output currents.

Circuit assembly for producing a one-way connection between transmitter and/or receiver units and an antenna

A new current sense circuit has been achieved. The current sense circuit comprises, first, a first MOS transistor having a gate, a drain, and a source. The gate is coupled to a control signal. The drain is coupled to a load such that a load current flows through the first MOS transistor when the control signal is ON. A second MOS transistor has a gate, a drain, and a source. The gate is coupled to the control signal. The drain is coupled to a constant current source such that the constant current flows through the second MOS transistor when the control signal is ON. The source is coupled to the source of the first MOS transistor. The first and second MOS transistors are operating in the linear region when the control signal is ON. Finally, a means to compare the first MOS transistor drain voltage and the second MOS transistor drain voltage is provided.
