The present invention relates to determining a treatment response index. In order to improve and facilitate hypertension treatment procedures, a device () for determining a treatment response index is provided that comprises a data input (), a data processor () and a data output (). The data input is configured to receive a value () of at least one first measurement of a physiological parameter of a subjects vasculature under a first condition; and to provide a value () of at least one second measurement of the physiological parameter of the vasculature under a second condition. In the second condition, a pre-determined stimulation is provided, and the first condition is non-stimulated or at least differently stimulated. The data processor is configured to generate a treatment response index. In an example, the data output is configured to provide a classification of the subject into one of at least two groups of subjects, based on the treatment response index.

Determination of a treatment response index

A system and method is disclosed for measurement of pulse wave velocity of a vessel. An intravascular device comprises a first and a second marker provided at different locations along the length of the intravascular device of which positions are localizable by a tracking apparatus. The intravascular device provides plurality of measurements along the length of the vessel, while the intravascular device is moved from a first position to a second position, corresponding to a first and a second time. At the second time the position of the first marker in the vessel corresponds to the position of the second marker at the first time. The pulse wave velocity value of the vessel is ascertained based on measurements associated for the first time and the second time from the plurality of measurements and based on the distance between the locations of the two markers along the length of the intravascular device.

Pulse wave velocity measurement system

The invention relates to a detection apparatus () for determining a state of tissue. The detection apparatus () comprises a fluorescence spectrum providing unit () for providing a fluorescence spectrum of the tissue, a differentiation unit () for generating a derivative of the fluorescence spectrum, and a tissue state determination unit () for determining the state of the tissue from the derivative. This allows determining the state of the tissue, even if characteristics, which are related to the state of the tissue, are only hardly visible or not visible at all in the fluorescence spectrum. The reliability of determining the state of the tissue, for instance, whether the tissue is cancerous or not, can therefore be improved.

Detection apparatus for determining a state of tissue

The present invention relates to a device for determining information relating to a suspected occluding structure. It is described to provide () a spectral resolving unit with at least one broadband radiation. The at least one broadband radiation comprises a first broadband radiation acquired from a region of interest within a vascular structure. An occluding structure is suspected to be located within the region of interest and wherein the first broadband radiation is associated with the suspected occluding structure. At least one spectrally resolved data set is determined () on the basis of the at least one broadband radiation, wherein the at least one spectrally resolved data set comprises a first spectrally resolved data set determined on the basis of the first broadband radiation. A processing unit is provided () with the at least one spectrally resolved data set on the basis of the at least one broadband radiation. The processing unit determines () information relating to the suspected occluding structure, comprising utilisation of the first spectrally resolved data set.

Device for determining information relating to a suspected occluding object

A system for detection of optically anisotropic tissue is provided. The system comprises an optical source, an optical detector, a processing unit and a probe. The probe has a shaft with a longitudinal axis and a front end, and a plurality of optical fibers; wherein an end of each of the optical fibers is arranged at the front end of the shaft, and at least one of the optical fibers is a source optical fiber adapted to transmit optical radiation emitted from the optical source to a tissue adjacent to the front end of the shaft. Another one of the optical fibers is a detector optical fiber adapted to transmit optical radiation reflected from the tissue to the optical detector, so that an optical path through the tissue is defined, wherein the optical paths differ from each other with respect to their spatial orientation, and wherein the optical paths cross each other. The processor is configured to control the optical source to emit optical radiation, to receive a signal generated by the optical detector based on the optical radiation reflected by the tissue, to determine a plurality of optical spectra of the reflected optical radiation based on the received signal, wherein the optical spectra are obtained of the same location from at least two different directions, wherein the measurement of the optical spectra is performed either simultaneously or sequentially, and to compare the plurality of optical spectra, wherein the optical spectra relate to optical radiation of the different optical paths thus allowing the detection of anisotropic tissue using differences between the optical spectra.

Detection of anisotropic biological tissue

A medical imaging system for identifying a target structure (TS), e.g. a tumor, in a biological tissue. A hyperspectral camera system is used for imaging a surface area (A) of the tissue (BT), e.g. with a limited spectral resolution, but enough to allow identification of suspicious areas where the target structure (TS) may be, e.g. such areas can be visually indicated on a display to the operator. A probe (PR), e.g. an optical surface probe, is used to provide probe measurement of a smaller surface area (A) of the tissue, but with more information indicative of the target structure. The probe is selected to provide a higher specificity with respect to identification of the target structure than the hyperspectral camera (HSC). The hyperspectral processing algorithm (PP) is then calibrated based on probe measurement data performed within the suspicious areas, thus providing a calibrated hyperspectral processing algorithm resulting in images with an enhanced sensitivity to identify the target structure. Only few probe measurements are required to significantly improve the resulting image, thereby providing a reliable and fast target structure (TS) identification.

A catheter () has an image sensing system (S-S) for imaging the interior wall of a passageway in which the catheter is to be located. The catheter has a radial imaging system comprising a light source arrangement for generating a light output radially around the catheter and an image sensor for receiving the generally radial light after the light has been scattered back by the interior wall. The catheter is positioned within the passageway with a known position and orientation, for example a known angle with respect to the anterior-posterior plane along the length of the catheter, so that it is known where along the catheter length, and at which angular position around the catheter, it is close to the passageway wall. The light output has a different intensity at different radial directions and/or the catheter comprises a light transmission arrangement which gives rise to different transmission of the light output at different radial directions. These provide alternative measures to reduce the light received by the image sensor, thereby to prevent blooming in the captured image.

Catheter with optical sensing

The invention relates to a photonic probe apparatus and a method for probing tissue to detect and mark biological tissue with cancerous or precancerous states. The apparatus involves a probe for illuminating tissue and collecting light from an illuminated tissue region through the probe, a unit for analyzing collected light to determine whether a threshold measure of probability of a cancerous or precancerous lesion in the probed tissue region in contact with the probe is exceeded, and an integrated tissue marking facility which can be activated to mark the probed tissue region through the probe when the threshold measure is exceeded. The photonic probe apparatus and the method are especially suitable for probing regions in squamous and columnar epithelia to detect and mark regions with cervical cancer or cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN).

Photonic needle system with measurement integration times depending on needle displacement speed

A system and method to support exploring the interior of an object. The systemincludes a graphical user interface generator (GG) to generate a graphical user interface (GUI). The graphical user interface (GUI) includes an indicator (NC) of a current position of an interventional tool (IT) inside an object (OB). There is also an exploratory indictor (PC) to indicate material composition and/or type that surrounds the tool's tip (TP) at a current position in the object (OB). The exploratory indicator (PC) includes a pointer element for a current reading against a dial element for a range of possible values.

User interface for photonic tools and electromagnetic tracking guided bronchoscope

An interventional device, e.g. a Vacuum Assisted Biopsy (VAB) needle, incorporating optical fibers such that biological tissue in a volume at a side of the interventional device can be substantially completely optically probed by optical spectroscopy. In a VAB embodiment, a plurality of optical fiber pairs connected to respective optical ports, are placed at opposite positions along the suction cavity, and they are readout subsequently allowing to make a map of the tissue properties along the place where the tissue will be cut by the VAB needle. Based on decision software in an optical console, it can be determined whether the tissue present in the cutting cavity is completely normal tissue or not, prior to actually performing the biopsy on the tissue. In this way a well defined end point for VAB is created. In one embodiment, the optical fibers are arranged in a wall structure of a thin sleeve which fits onto existing VAB needles, thus allowing the VAB needle to be upgraded with an optical probing capability.

Optical guided vacuum assisted biopsy device

An electro-surgical system () with an optical feedback functionality for performing electro-surgery on tissue () of patient. An electro-surgical device () has an electrode portion () with an optical guide () integrated therein. An optical unit () performs optical characterization of tissue type and/or condition, and is arranged for performing an analysis of the tissue type and/or condition. A control unit () generates a feedback control signal (FEEDCON) based on the analysis of the tissue type and/or condition, optical guide allows inspecting the tissue that is e.g. just a few millimeters ahead of the electrode portion () performing e.g. the cutting. As a result of the fast and reliable analysis performed by the spectrometer in the optical unit according to the present invention, the system can proactively react to what kind of tissue is in front of the electro-surgical portion i.e. the 'blade' of the electro-surgical device or the electro-surgical 'knife'.
