A faceplate including an antenna for receiving navigation signals, a processor electrically coupled to the antenna for determining a position, a display electrically coupled to the processor for displaying navigation information, and at least one input arrangement. The faceplate able to be installed on a front side of a vehicular electronic unit in a dashboard of a vehicle. The at least one input arrangement controlling the vehicular electronic unit when the faceplate is received on the front side of the vehicular electronic unit. The method includes determining by a processor whether a handheld unit is received in a dashboard receptacle. The processor is situated in the handheld unit and electrically coupled to an antenna situated in the handheld unit. The processor is electrically coupled to a display situated in the handheld unit. The dashboard receptacle is situated in the vehicle. Navigating the pedestrian using the antenna if the handheld unit is not received in the dashboard receptacle. Navigating the driver using a further antenna if the handheld unit is received in the dashboard receptacle. The further antenna is situated on the vehicle.

Method and device for a detachable navigation system

A method for producing a thin film on a carrier substrate. For this purpose, a buried sacrificial layer is initially produced in the interior of a parent body, the buried sacrificial layer separating a layer from a residual body remaining from the parent body. After that, the carrier substrate is attached to the layer and the sacrificial layer is then removed. As a result, the thin film to be produced comes into being on the carrier substrate. The method is suitable for the production of electronic components or thin-film solar cells, the parent body being made up, for example, of monocrystalline silicon in which a sacrificial layer of porous silicon is produced.

Sensor arrangement for detecting the physical properties of liquids

With a sensor and method, it is possible for platinum resistor elements to be used advantageously as heating elements, temperature sensors, printed circuit traces, or as chemically resistant electron beam sensitive layers. To ensure a long-lasting adhesion of the platinum resistance layer to a dielectric substrate, even during exposure to temperatures which are elevated over ambient temperature and under dry and most atmospheric conditions, a thin adhesion layer of platinum silicide, for example, is deposited between the platinum resistance layer and the dielectric substrate. Resistor elements patterned from the platinum layer can advantageously be used in temperature sensors, mass flow sensors, chemical sensors, gas sensors, or humidity sensors.

Sensor and method for manufacturing a sensor

A method of producing an optical waveguide, in which a substrate of silicon is etched porously to a defined depth by anodic oxidation in an electrolyte containing hydrofluoric acid. The etched substrate is doped in a suitable dopant liquid containing cations. The doped layer of porous silicon is stabilized at an elevated temperature, and the stabilized layer is oxidized with a further increase in temperature. The oxidized porous layer is made to collapse at a temperature sufficient for partial melting. The surface of the collapsed silicon dioxide layer is covered in a pattern by a lithographic technique, and the cations are replaced by silver ions in the uncovered areas of the surface by bringing the surface in contact with a solution containing silver ions or silver complex ions.
