A method and device for measuring screw threads on tubes connecting sleeves or the like, by means of a measuring pin which is moved to measured surfaces in two mutually independent measuring directions offset by 90.degree. from each other. The two measuring directions are associated with a force direction effective as a resultant. The measuring pin further has an advance deflection in each of the two measuring directions which are annulled at the point contact of the measuring pin with the measured surfaces.

Apparatus and method for measuring screw threads

A safety device on a quill with a sensing head fixably connected thereto interrupts a positioning motion of the quill in case of a collision of the sensing head. For this purpose there is fastened to the quill a mounting plate 6, on which rests a bearing plate on at least three balls 20. The sensing head is fixable to the bearing plate. Several switches and switching cams assigned to them are offset relative to the balls on the bearing plate. In case of a collision of the sensing head, the bearing plate is deflected relative to the mounting plate, thereby causing at least one switch to interrupt the driving motion of the quill.

A measuring head for screw thread measuring machines which is capable of measuring threads of a piece to be measured which has an outer diameter with a measuring point and which may be of varied diameters within predetermined limits comprises a base plate which has a thruhole in its center, a plurality of straight support grooves. Feelers are arranged at spaced angular locations around the periphery of the hole and a centering disc is located within the hole as well as measuring elements which are similarly offset and clamping elements which are arranged at selected angular locations to engage the centering disc. The feelers and the measuring elements are carried in a measuring station which is movable along a groove which extends parallel to a straight line which intersects a measuring point on the diameter of the piece to be measured and the lowermost point of the piece at the location in which it intersects the vertical axis.
