The invention relates to a method for calibrating a grinding machine for sharpening bar blades by grinding at least two flanks and a top surface (K) of the bar blades, involving the following steps: producing a calibrating blade by sharpening a bar blade according to predetermined dimensions; measuring the dimensions of the calibrating blade, and; calibrating the machine with the aid of at least the measurement result. In order to produce a calibrating blade, the bar blade is, in at least two steps, ground on the flanks and on the top surface (K) in a complete calibrating grinding. The inventive method is advantageous in that the calibrating blade is ground under the same conditions as a production blade so that process-related influences, in particular, displacements associated with the grinding forces, can also be taken into consideration.

Method for calibrating a grinding machine

A grinding wheel ( ) that rotates around an axis and that has a working area consisting of an annular surface with a circular arc profile in axial cross section is used to first generate a surface on a cutting blade ( ) by grinding with the annular surface during a first orientation in space between the grinding wheel ( ) and the cutting blade ( ) by means of at least one first relative translational movement between the same, and subsequently at least one part of the generated surface is reground with the annular surface during a second orientation in space between the grinding wheel ( ) and the cutting blade ( ) by means of at least one second relative translational movement between the same. The grinding wheel ( ) is a diamond cup-type grinding wheel. One part ( &prime;) of the working area ( ) is located in a face area and another part ( &Prime;) is located in a cylinder area of the grinding wheel ( ). The one part ( &prime;) is used for rough grinding and the other part ( &Prime;) is used for finish grinding of the surface to be generated on the cutting blade ( ). The grinding wheel ( ) has the same abrasive coating for the entire working area ( ). Thus roughing and finishing are performed using areas of the grinding wheel ( ) that have the same specifications but different grinding parameters. Preferably, spatial orientation between the grinding wheel ( ) and the cutting blade ( ) is selected by adjusting the cutting blade ( ) in relation to the grinding wheel ( ). The method enables planar and/or convex and concave surfaces to be generated on a cutting blade.

Method for grinding at least one surface on a cutting knife used in machining, use of said method and grinding wheel used to carry out said method

A grinding wheel and a method for grinding bar blade for the production of spiral gear teeth are described. For economical grinding of such bar blades the grinding wheel has a conical grinding surface (Pp) widening from a small diameter (d ) to a large diameter (d ), a cylindrical grinding surface (Ps) adjoining the conical grinding surface (Pp), and a toroidal grinding surface (G) adjoining the cylindrical grinding surface (Ps). The grinding wheel embodied in this manner enables profile grinding (rough grinding) and subsequent generating grinding (finish grinding) of the surfaces of the bar blade without the necessity of remounting the blade. For practical purposes the grinding wheel rotates about a stationary axis (S), and the bar blade to be ground is guided along the grinding wheel at appropriately set angles.

Dual-grinding method for bar blades and grinding disc for carrying out said method

At the gear manufacturing machine there are automatically fabricated longitudinally curved tooth gears, especially longitudinally curved tooth bevel and hypoid gears according to conventional stock-removal form or generating methods. In order to improve both the mechanical stability and kinematic stability, the gear manufacturing machine contains only so-to-speak 'natural' gear manufacturing or cutting axes, and, in particular, does not contain any hypoid stock, however, a generating drum. With the method of operating such gear manufacturing machine it is possible to fabricate hypoid gears during the generating operation by performing an additional movement of the workpiece in the lengthwise direction of the tooth pitch cone.
