Compositions and methods of treating textiles are disclosed. More specifically, stable compositions and methods for softening a wide range of fabrics are disclosed, including 100% cotton and hydrophobic synthetic fabrics, without detrimentally affecting the water absorbency properties of the fabrics. The compositions may contain at least one fatty material and at least one polyorganosiloxane.

Compositions useful as rinse cycle fabric softeners

Yarns consisting essentially of about 85 to 90 weight % hydrophobic fiber and about 10 to 15 weight % hydrophilic fiber can be made into fabrics that exhibit a combination of properties that make them strongly preferred by wearers, as compared even to fabrics made from yarns containing only 5% more, or 5% less, of the hydrophilic fiber. More particularly, these novel yarns yield fabrics capable of quickly absorbing perspiration from a wearer's skin and yet capable of quickly releasing that moisture, resulting in surprising levels of wearer comfort and wearer preference.

Synthetic fiber fabrics with enhanced hydrophilicity and comfort

An improved process for producing an anisotropic pitch product suitable for carbon fiber manufacture. A carbonaceous feedstock is heated at elevated temperature while passing a reactive sparging gas through the feedstock. The sparging gas is an oxidative gas such as a gaseous mixture containing a major proportion of inert gas and from about 0.1 to 2% by volume of oxygen. The process produces an anisotropic pitch having from 50 to 100% by volume mesophase which is suitable for producing good quality carbon fibers.

Process for making mesophase pitch

An improved process for producing an anisotropic pitch product suitable for carbon fiber manufacture. A carbonaceous feedstock substantially free of mesophase pitch is heated at elevated temperature while passing an oxidatively reactive sparging gas such as air through the feedstock. The oxidatively treated feedstock, which remains substantially free of mesophase pitch, is then heated at a higher temperature in the presence of a non-oxidative sparging gas to produce an anisotropic pitch having from 50 to 100% by volume mesophase which is suitable for producing good quality carbon fibers.

Process for the production of mesophase pitch

Reinforcement structure with enhanced compressive strength is obtained by wrapping a yarn helically around a core of longitudinally aligned yarn to form a sheath that compresses the core, the yarn of both sheath and core having a tenacity greater than 10 dN/tex and an initial modulus greater than 200 dN/tex.
