A plug connector device () for multicore flat cables (), has a plug () which can be fixedly joined to one end of a flat cable in a mechanical fashion, and a plug socket () which can be run through by the flat cable () such that, with their first contact ends (), contact elements of the plug socket () engaging in the plug () can be electronically connected to the flat cable at their other contact ends () using IDC technology. To assure that the plug connector device is robust and has high contacting reliability, provision is made that plug () is provided with contact elements (), whose first contact ends () are configured for the electrical connection to the first contact ends () of the contact elements () of the plug socket (), and whose other contact ends () are configured for the connection to the flat cable () using IDC technology.

Plug connector device for multicore flat cables

A connector module ( ) for installation on a small mobile telephone to enable the module to rest at a docking station where contacts mate to pass multiple medium to low frequency signals and power and to pass high frequency signals through a coaxial connection of high frequency signals as to an external antenna. The module includes a molded dielectric body ( ) having a first body part ( ) that holds the first contacts ( ) for medium to low frequency signals and power, and having a second body part ( ) that extends from a longitudinal end ( ) of the first body part and that holds the coaxial contacts ( ). The first contacts have strip-shaped mating sides ( ) fixed to the body for engaging mating contacts by merely pressing the body against a row of resilient contacts on the docking station, while the coaxial contacts are constructed with the inner contact having a face that can be deflected by a mating inner contact ( ) and with the outer coaxial contact ( ) forming a conical recess ( ) for receiving a corresponding projection on the mating outer coaxial contact member of the docking station.

Mobile telephone connector module

A plug-receiving electrical connector is described, which includes a molded plastic housing (12) with a forwardly-opening cavity (16) for receiving a plug (11), which includes one-piece metal holders (13, 14) that directly engage latches (67) on the plug and that directly fix the connector to a circuit board (15). Each one-piece holder is formed of sheet metal and has a main part (45) lying in a vertical plane (82) and a strike (47) extending from a forward edge (84) of the main part and bent 90.degree. about a vertical axis (100). The housing has side walls (26, 27) that each have a vertical slot (31, 32) that enables the holder main part to pass completely through the slot so a bottom portion (94) of the holder can directly engage the circuit board, and so the strike can project into the plug-receiving cavity to directly engage the plug latch. Each side wall is formed with a protrusion (22) that lies against the forward surface of the strike to support it.

Molded connector with metal holder

In a process for fitting a round cable provided with a number of single wires with a multi-way, preferably flat, plug into which the single wires are placed, the single wires have their free ends stripped of insulation and are fitted with contacts. In such a process, assembly can be carried out in a cost-effective manner and the risk of damage to the small contacts is greatly reduced. Provision is made for the single wires to be placed alongside each other in a wire holder of the plug, for the ends projecting beyond the wire holder to be cut to the same projecting length and stripped of insulation to the same length and for a contact carrier to be provided with the corresponding number of adjacent contacts and connected to the end of the wire holder receiving the single wire ends, and for the opposing regions of stripped single wire ends and connection elements of the contacts to be interconnected to make electrical contact.

Process of making cable plug connector

A plug-receiving connector is provided, which includes a molded plastic housing (12) for mounting on a circuit board, which minimizes stress on the plastic housing in mounting it and in latching to a mating plug. A sheet metal bracket (14) has a top plate part (46) that lies over the top wall (28) of the plastic housing and has a pair of depending sheet metal parts (47, 48, 58, 59) at each of the opposite sides of the top plate part. One of the depending sheet metal parts of each pair is a holding tab (58, 59) that extends through a slit (31, 32) in the plastic housing top wall, through a plug-receiving cavity (16) formed by the housing, and into a slit (33, 34) in a plastic housing bottom wall (29). Each of the second depending sheet metal parts comprises a sheet metal side (47, 48) that lies closely outside a corresponding plastic housing side wall (26, 27), so each plastic housing side wall is sandwiched between a sheet metal holding tab and a sheet metal side. Each sheet metal side has a lower end holding a horizontally-extending mount tab (51, 52) that is mounted on the circuit board as by soldering it thereto.

A locking device is provided for an electrical connector system to hold two connectors, (1, 2) together. The locking device includes S-shaped sheet metal locking hooks (9) on a second connector that lock into cutouts (8) on a plate (7) of the first connector. One curved arch (14) of the S-shaped sheet metal hook snaps into the cutout and resists unmating.

A cable plug is described for connecting a cable to the rear of an IC (integrated circuit) card of the PCMCIA type, which makes a simple ground connection between the cable shield and the card cover. Case shells (31, 32, FIG. 2 ) of the plug connector have rear ends with a crimp (37) and a bridge (40) that directly engage a cable shield (24). The case shells have front ends that form forwardly-projecting tabs (43, 44). The tabs project through slits (45, 46) of a carrier plate portion (12) and directly engage sheet metal cover portions of the IC card. The tabs lie slightly above and below plug parts (13, 14) of the carrier, so the front parts protect the tabs.

A connection apparatus for a mobile telephone, includes a plug (2) and a receptacle (1) that each has both beam contacts and coaxial contacts. The plug includes a receiver (10) with a cavity (46) and with a sheath (50) lying within the cavity, and with a gap (22) between them. The receptacle includes a casing (17) that fits into the gap and that receives the sheath of the plug. The plug sheath includes an elongated bridge (9) from which beam contacts (8) project that mate with beam contacts (4) of the receptacle casing. The sheath also includes a coax sheath part (14) that is contiguous with the bridge and that forms a hole (15) that receives a coaxial contact (11) that mates with a coaxial contact (6) in the receptacle casing.

Electrical connection system

A lockable electrical connector is provided with two connector halves, and a locking device which includes at least one pin on one connector half and at least one receiving sleeve on the other connector half. The pin embodies an annular securing groove and the receiving sleeve is provided with a circumferentially extending slot. In the mated condition of the connector halves, a transversely displaceable slide extends through the slot in the sleeve into the securing groove in the pin to lock the connector halves together.

Lockable electrical connector

A connector housing for a pair of fiber optic cables each terminated by a sleeve. The housing is provided with integral resilient latching fingers adjacent to its opposite ends which engage behind shoulders on the sleeves to releasably retain the sleeves in the housing.
