Coking system, wherein the coking blends particularly based on hard coal, are fed batchwise to a reactor (1), which is heated indirectly by heat recovery in regenerators (I, II) or recuperators, whereby the reactor is built as a high-capacity coking reactor (100), several high-capacity coking reactors are combined to form a reactor block and the high-capacity coking reactors are built as mutually independent modules, whereby each module can be operated or optionally replaced independently of the neighboring modules, with little or no impairment of the operation of the neighboring modules. The individual reactors are independently operatable in terms of statics and heat supply. The regenerators, or recuperators (I, II, R, R') can be arranged laterally or underneath the reactor chamber. Neighboring reactors can have a common intermediate wall (2). The reactor chambers have a width of at least 0.7 m, a height of at least 8.5 m and a length of at least 18 m.

Coking reactor

Apparatus and method for reducing nitrogen oxides in flue gas within a flue gas duct includes a number of distributor tubes for the injection of a reducing agent into the flue gas within the duct. Each distributor tube includes a control valve to be able to set an appropriate injection of the reducing agent to respond to different concentrations of the nitrogen oxides within the flue gas over the cross section of the flue gas duct. Each distributor tube comprises at least two parallel distributor tube segments which extend from opposite sides of the flue gas duct to the center of the flue gas duct. The two parallel distribution tube segments include a plurality of openings along the lengths thereof to supply the reducing agent generally evenly throughout their aligned portions of the cross section. The control valve is employed to adjust the reducing agent to provide the proper quantity thereof which corresponds to the particular concentration of nitrogen oxides within the flue gas at each corresponding portion of the entire cross section.

Method for reducing nitrogen oxides in flue gas

This invention relates to a process for the manufacture of catalysts for the reduction of oxides of nitrogen from exhaust gases and in chemical air cleaning processes in which a catalytically active material containing iron ores, chromium ores and/or zeolite is placed in contact with a carrier means having a series of openings; e.g., wire mesh, expanded or perforated metal or any type of grid-like structure to form a catalytic member. The carrier means is etched with an acid etchant before forming the catalytic member or, instead, the catalytic member is etched with an acid etchant. The catalytic member is bonded by a thermal treatment; e.g., drying, tempering and/or fixing. This invention also relates to catalytic members or products produced by the process. This invention proposes the use of pressure bonding to obtain a catalytic member product which has significantly improved catalytic activity, greater mechanical strength and higher resistance to chipping.

Moist bulk coal is supplied into a fluidized bed drier into which is introduced a first heat carrier gas to thereby dry the moist coal to form dried coal. The dried coal is discharged from the drier and is transferred to a generally horizontal bulk material conveyor. A second heat carrier gas is injected through the bottom of the bulk material conveyor, thereby transporting the coal generally horizontally and preheating the coal to form preheated coal. The preheated coal is then discharged from the bulk material conveyor and is filled into a selected charging opening of a coke oven battery.

An apparatus for transferring between chambers of a coke oven charging gases which develop during the charging of the chambers, while preventing the escape of the gases to the surrounding environment, includes first and second covers mounted for movement between first positions closing charging openings through an oven roof and second positions uncovering such openings. Ducts surround the peripheries of the first and second openings, such ducts being filled with a displaceable sealing medium. First and second housings form respective first and second compartments enclosing the first and second covers, respectively, at all positions thereof. The first and second covers have apron members extending into the displaceable sealing medium in the respective ducts when the covers are in the first positions thereof. The housings have at lower portions thereof seals for sealing the compartments from the exterior. First and second lifting devices are associated with the respective housing to move the first and second covers, respectively, within the respective compartments between the first and second positions of the covers. A transfer duct extends between the first and second compartments for, upon the covers being moved from the first positions thereof, transferring charging gases between the chamber openings via the compartments.

Small, pourable particles of comminuted coal for coking purposes are gravity-discharged into a stream of hot gas flowing upwardly in a flight stream tube, in a direction inclined and generally opposite to the gas flow direction. Just prior to entry into the gas stream the particles are fluidized so that, on being entrained by the gas stream, they will become uniformly distributed throughout the cross-section of the same. A method and an apparatus is provided for charging particulate coal through ceiling holes into a coke oven. A conveyor above the coke oven ceiling is connected with each ceiling hole by a conduit. Mounted in the conduit is a first closure member which is movable to and from a position in which it permits gravity flow of coal from the conveyor to the ceiling hole. Also mounted in the conduit is a second closure member movable to and from a position in which it blocks the escape of gas from the ceiling hole. To charge, the second member is first moved to open position and thereupon the first member; when charging is completed the members are moved in reversed sequence to their closing positions.

Charging of coke ovens and method

A process and apparatus for the dry cooling of coke involves the provision of a vessel having therein first and second zones in full communication with each other. Hot coke from a coking operation is introduced into the first zone and is passed through the first and second zones. Raw coke oven gas from the coking operation is introduced into the first zone, thereby reducing the temperature of the coke, while cleaning the raw coke oven gas to form cleaned coke oven gas. The cleaned coke oven gas is removed from the first zone, cooled, and then directly or indirectly utilized as a heat carrier gas introduced into the second zone to therein further reduce the temperature of the coke. The thereby further cooled coke is removed from the second zone.

Process and apparatus for the dry cooling of coke

An apparatus for charging coke chambers is disclosed which effectively reduces and controls gas and dust emissions evolved during the coke charging operation. The charging apparatus includes a gas-tight enclosure which seals the immediate area surrounding the cooling chamber or serially arranged chambers in a cooling plant, a lift transport facility located internally to the enclosure for carrying a coke bucket to and from the respective coke cooling chambers, a crane or elevator for placing and removing the coke bucket from the lift transport facility, and an exhaust device for evacuating the gas and dust emissions from the enclosure. Inert gas feedlines are integrated with the charging operation to maintain an inert gas atmosphere within the enclosure.

In the process of transferring coke from a coke oven chamber in a battery of coke ovens to a quenching car, the coke is quenched by a water spray from above. The resulting steam is collected in a hood located above and movable with the quenching car and is either exhausted from the hood and conveyed to a condenser or is condensed in the hood with the condensate being collected, cooled and recirculated to provide the water for the quenching and condensing sprays. The apparatus and method of this invention provides for transferring and quenching the coke without emitting harmful gases and dust to the atmosphere.

Superheated steam is continuously made to flow through the housing of a device which conveys coal from a bunker to the charging holes of coke ovens. While no charging takes place, the steam is vented from the housing and condensed. When charging does take place, the steam enters the coke oven with the coal, is then discharged from the coke oven, and thereupon condensed. The pressure of the steam in the housing may be greater than ambient atmospheric pressure and/or the pressure of the coking gas in the oven, to reliably prevent the entry of the air and/or the gas into the housing and thus to avoid the formation of dangerous gas mixtures therein.

A drivable member has an opening therethrough and is positioned within a charging port of a chamber. The drivable member has suspended therefrom an inner cover. The drivable member is axially movable with respect to the charging port between a raised position, whereat the inner cover is moved into a sealing position against an inner surface of the charging port, and a lowered position, whereat the inner cover is moved away from the inner surface. An intermediate seal is formed between the exterior of the charging port and an exterior portion of the drivable member, and the intermediate seal is maintained during all positions of movement of the drivable member. An outer cover is selectively movable into sealing engagement with an upper portion of the drivable member to form an outer seal. The outer cover may be removed and replaced by a material supply container which also forms an outer seal with the upper portion of the drivable member. Thereafter, the drivable member may be moved to the lowered position thereof to open the inner seal, and material be charged from the container through the opening and the charging port into the interior of the chamber.
