There is disclosed a method for determining the amounts of individual copying light when copying color originals, particularly color negatives which are combined into films. The color originals are scanned photoelectrically and separately in the primary colors by region or by point, and the results of the measurement are used to control the amounts of copying light. For each scanned region a first difference is formed between the density values of two basic colors, a second difference is formed between the density values of one of these basic colors and the third basic color, and the average density is formed from the density measurements of the three basic colors. In each case, a functional relationship with the average density is produced, known as a color density difference curve, which describes the color behavior of the recording material on which the copy is to be made. This functional relationship supplies film-specific values for producing copies of the film, the film-specific values being used for the determination of the amounts of copying light for the original to be copied. For films of one type, the functional relationship between color density difference values and average densities describing the color behavior common to this are determined and stored as standard color density difference curves. When a film of this type appears, these stored standard color density difference curves are used to determine copying light quantities.

Method for determining the amount of light in each primary color when copying a colored original

A method and a device for reproducing originals onto light-sensitive materials is described where unsharp masks for changing the reproduction process or the density values to be reproduced are determined from the density values of the original and from pre-specified gradation factors. Several different gradation factors are used to determine the mask of an original.

Device and method for reproducing originals onto light-sensitive material

The present invention concerns a method of making photographic prints on stock from negatives that differ in density range. The appropriateness of the exposure gradient of the stock for the particular negative is ensured by employing stock with a definite 'contrast-Schwarzchild-effect' and by so varying the intensity of the light that the negative is exposed to during printing that the gradient is adapted to the characteristics of the particular negative as a function of the accordingly varied printing time.

Method and apparatus for making photographic prints from negatives

An exposure of a color film is scanned at a multiplicity of points in each of the primary colors. The color compositions of the points are evaluated to identify color compositions characteristic of skin tones, and a color space is created based on these color compositions. Scanned points whose color compositions lie in the color space undergo an examination to ascertain whether or not they actually represent skin. The examination is concerned primarily with the positions of such scanned points within the exposure and secondarily with density differences between the points and specified zones of the exposure, density differences between adjacent points, and the nature of any groups formed by the points, only those scanned points which actually represent skin are considered when calculating the amount of copy light for the exposure in each primary color.

Printing of color film

A method of automatically controlling exposure when printing from film which is exposed under controlled lighting conditions. The prevailing lighting conditions are determined by photographing a standard subject in the form of a gray-scale board with at least one field of gray and illuminated by the studio lighting. The gray scale is recognized as a standard subject during region-by-region analysis of the film's frames and the results obtained from the gray scale are employed as a film-specific standard in computing the levels of light to use for printing.
