Silanised, structurally modified silicas, characterised by groups fixed on the surface, the groups being alkylsilyl (SiCH, with n=2-18). They are produced in that pyrogenically produced silicas are treated with the silanising agent and structurally modified. They are used to improve scratch resistance in lacquers.

Silicas

Silanized, structurally modified, pyrogenically produced silicas, characterised by groups fixed to the surface, wherein the groups are dimethylsilyl and/or monomethylsilyl, are produced in that pyrogenically produced silica is treated by a known method with dimethyldichlorosilane and/or monomethyltrichlorosilane, the groups dimethylsilyl and/or monomethylsilyl being fixed on the surface of the pyrogenic silica, and is then structurally modified and optionally post-ground. They are used to improve scratch resistance in lacquers.

Pyrogenically prepared, surface modified aluminum oxide, having the following physical chemical properties: is prepared by treating pyrogenically prepared aluminum oxide with a surface modifying agent.

A surface-modified, aerogel-type, structured silica is produced by spraying an aerogel-type, structured silica with a silanizing agent, post-mixing and conditioning. It can be used as a flatting agent.

Functionalized, structurally modified silicas with 3-methacryloxypropylsilyl and/or glycidyloxypropylsilyl groups on the surface are prepared by mixing the silicas with the silane and heat-treating, destructuring and grinding the mixture. The silicas are employed in radiation-curing coatings.

Functionalized silicas with 3-methacryloxypropylsilyl and/or glycidyloxypropylsilyl groups on the surface are prepared by mixing the silicas with the silane and heat-treating the mixture. The silicas are employed, for example, in solvent-containing coatings.

Functionalized silicas

Radiation-curing coating systems which contain a silanized silica, where the silane is hexamethyldisilazane, 3-methacryloxypropyltrialkoxysilane and/or glycidyloxypropyltrialkoxysilane as the silanizing agent. The radiation-curing coating systems can be used for coating derived timber boards, solid wood, wood veneers, parquet, decorative papers, decorative films, thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics, mineral and polymeric glasses, metals (for example aluminium, high-grade steel, phosphated, chromated and galvanized steel sheets, copper), lacquered surfaces, printing inks and leather.

Radiation-curing coating systems

A boron oxide-silicon dioxide mixed oxide which has a BET surface of less than 100 m,g, and optionally containing oxides of aluminium, titanium or zirconium, is prepared pyrogenically by flame hydrolysis. The mixed oxide is used in glass making.

The utilization of ethoxylated polyethyleneamines for addition to aqueous dispersions of pyrogenically prepared silicon dioxide in order to obtain an increase of the thickening action thereof.

Pressed objects (slugs) of pyrogenically produced oxides such as SiO.sub.2, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and TiO.sub.2 are produced using a silica sol and water. As molding assistants thereby there is employed a polyhydric alcohol, e.g. glycerine or sorbitol. The water can be added adsorbed on a pyrogenically produced hydrophobized silica. The pressed object obtained can be used inter alia as catalyst carrier.
