A and N-acyl compounds are used for the activation of inorganic peroxo compounds in washing, bleaching and cleaning agents and disinfectants. Compounds of formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a C.sub.6 to C.sub.l0 alkyl group; and R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or selected substituents, are highly effective activators for aqueous bleaching, washing, cleaning and disinfecting liquors. A particularly preferred activator is N-n-nonanoylsuccinimide.

The invention is directed to a process for hte production of water insoluble peroxycarboxylic acids in which the carboxylic acid is suspended in the reaction mixture and reacted with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid.

Aqueous bleaching agent suspensions based on a water-soluble peroxycarboxylic acid suspended in a carrier liquid in the presence of an organic thickening agent and of an acidifying agent exhibit an improved storage resistance over known suspensions with this base. This is achieved by means of pourable to pasty bleaching agent suspensions which contain a xanthan polysaccharide or agar polysaccharide as thickening agent and, in addition, a hydrate-forming neutral salt which desensitizes peroxycarboxylic acids. Preferred suspensions exhibit a pH of 2-5 and contain 10-30% by wt. diperoxydodecanedioic acid, 5-20% by wt. sodium sulfate and 0.1-1.0% by wt. xanthan. The use of non-dried, hydrophilized and optionally in situ desensitized peroxycarboxylic acids is especially preferred. The bleaching agent suspensions are prepared by homogeneously suspending the peroxycarboxylic acid in the thickened carrier liquid. The storage-resistant bleaching agent suspensions are used as laundry bleaching agents and for preparing cleaning agents and disinfection agents.

A process for desensitization of water insoluble peroxycarboxylic acids with essentially sodium sulfate in the aqueous phase, wherein the desensitized peroxycarboxylic acids is separated from the mother liquor, and the sodium sulfate contained in the mother liquor is isolated by one- or multi-stage crystallization in purified form as the deca (hepta) hydrate and this, directly or after conversion to an aqueous sodium sulfate solution, and/or anhydrous sodium sulfate is returned to the desensitization process. The process is nonpolluting and can be operated safely on the industrial scale. The peroxycarboxylic acids desensitized according to the invention are characterized by lower heavy metal content and high storage stability.

Thermosetting dental materials which contain a peroxycarboxylic acid in addition to other components customarily contained in dental materials and in addition to at least one monomeric ester of methacrylic acid as polymerization catalyst. These dental materials are distinguished from those which contain an organic peroxide as polymerization catalyst by a distinctly better stability during storage.

The strong foaming which occurs during the reaction of a carboxylic acid, aqueous hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid as well as when a phlegmatizing additive is also employed is greatly reduced by adding a phosphane oxide. Besides a local gathering of alkali during the subsequent neutralization of the sulfuric acid is prevented and the flowability of the suspension obtained of the product is improved. Furthermore, the product obtained has remarkable storage stability.

Aqueous bleaching agent suspensions based on a water-insoluble peroxycarboxylic acid suspended in a carrier liquid in the presence of a colloidal silicic acid and of an acidifying agent which exhibit, in comparision to known suspensions with this base, an improved storage resistance and are more economical to prepare. This result is achieved by means of pourable-to-pasty bleaching agent suspensions which contain 0.1 to 9% by weight silicic acid in relation to the suspension and contain a hydrate-forming neutral salt which desensitizes peroxycarboxylilc acids, in an amount of 10 to 400% by weight, calculated hydrate-free and in relation to peroxycarboxylic acid added. Preferred bleaching agent suspensions contain 10-30% by weight diperoxydodecanedioic acid, 5-20% by weight sodium sulfate and 2 to 6% by weight pyrogenic silicic acid, each in relation to the suspension. The use of non-dried, hydrophilized and optionally in situ-desensitized peroxycarboxylic acids is especially preferred. The preparation of the bleaching agents is performed by homogeneously suspending the peroxycarboxylic acid in the thickened carrier liquid. The storage-resistant bleaching agent suspensions find application as laundry bleaching agents and for the preparation of cleaning and disinfecting agents.

The invention is directed to a process for the production of monoperoxydicarboxylic acids and their alkali or alkaline earth metals by reacting the corresponding anhydride with hydrogen peroxide in an organic solvent which dissolves the corresponding peracid and in the presence of an anion exchanger.
