A fluid supply device for providing a mobile phase for a sample separating device includes, a supply conduit for providing a fluid which forms at least a part of the mobile phase, a fluid valve which is fluidically coupled with the supply conduit and, depending on its switching state, enables or prevents a passing of the fluid from the supply conduit, an elastic buffer unit which is fluidically coupled upstream of the fluid valve with the supply conduit and which is configured for buffering the fluid, and a fluid conveying unit for conveying the fluid which passes the fluid valve.

A fluidic device includes a planar structure constituted by a plurality of laminated layers and accommodating a fluid channel extending up to a surface of the planar structure, and a female adapter piece configured for a fluid-tight accommodation of a male adapter piece having a fluid conduit. The the female adapter piece is connected or connectable with the planar structure so that, when the male adapter piece is accommodated in the female adapter piece, the fluid conduit is brought in fluid-tight fluid communication with the fluid channel. The fluid channel is exposed to the female adapter piece at a lateral surface of the planar structure at which the laminated layers are exposed.

Disclosed is a sample dispatcher configured for individually introducing a plurality of portions of one or more sample fluids into a flow of a mobile phase of a separation system configured for separating compounds of the sample fluids. The separation system comprises a mobile phase drive configured for driving the mobile phase through a separation unit configured for separating compounds of the sample fluids in the mobile phase. The sample dispatcher comprises a plurality of sample reservoirs, each configured for receiving and temporarily storing a respective sample fluid portion or at least a part thereof. The sample dispatcher is configured for selectively coupling one of the plurality of sample reservoirs between the mobile phase drive and the separation unit, and further for coupling at least two of the plurality of sample reservoirs in parallel between the mobile phase drive and the separation unit.

A shear valve, for use in a high performance liquid chromatography system, comprises a first shear valve member and a second shear valve member. At least one of the first and second shear valve members is adapted to be moved with respect to the other. One of the first and second shear valve members comprises a plurality of ports, and the other comprises at least one fluid path for fluidly coupling respective ones of the ports in dependency on a relative movement position of the first and second shear valve members with respect to each other. A cover for sealing a container and preferably containers for a well plate. The cover is comprised of at least a top layer and a bottom layer structured in a way to form a recloseable aperture. Preferably, each of the layers comprise a recloseable aperture structured as flap, damper, baffle or butterfly valve respectively, wherein the recloseable apertures are arranged on top of each other. In a preferred embodiment of the invention a third moveable layer is arranged between the top and the bottom layer. By moving the middle layer, the aperture in the cover can be closed.

The microchip () is arranged on a mounting plate, such that it is readily accessible from the top and thus the fitting and removal of the microchip is considerably simplified. Furthermore, the first physical unit () comprises an optical device () for contactless detection of the results of the chemical processes conducted on the microchip. The supply systems necessary for the operation of the microchip are arranged in a module unit that has a separable connection with a second physical unit. The proposed modular layout enables ease of interchangeability of the required supply systems and thus, overall, ease of adaptability of the proposed system for various types of microchips.

In a device to operate and handle a laboratory microchip to chemically process or analyze substances, the microchip is on a chip holder () that is part of a first assembly (). The first assembly () also has an optical device () for contactless detection of the results of the chemical processes carried out on the microchip. A supply device () required to operate the microchip is in a module releasably connected to a second assembly (). In particular, the second assembly () has an intermediate carrier () that is releasably connected to the supply device (). The intermediate carrier has continuous electrical paths () or connecting channels that can bridge electrodes () or supply channels of the supply device () and the assigned counterelectrodes () of the microchip. There are correspondingly connecting lines () to bridge the supply of materials. On the one hand, the bridging serves to prevent wear and soiling of the supply device () electrodes that arises upon contacting the microchip. In addition, the intermediate carrier also serves to spatially adapt the electrodes of the supply device () to the respective surface or spatial arrangement of the electrode surfaces of the microchip. It is thereby advantageously possible to adapt the entire measuring or operating device to special microchip layouts merely by exchanging the intermediate carrier ().
