In a gas-operated premixing burner for the combustion chamber of a gas turbine, the fuel injected within a premixing space (21) by means of a plurality of nozzles (17) is intensively mixed with the combustion air prior to ignition. The nozzles are arranged around a burner axis (10). In order to influence the fuel profile at outlet from the burner in a specific manner, the fuel concentration in the region of the burner axis is kept greater than the average fuel concentration at the burner outlet plane (22). For this purpose, additional burner nozzles (23) are provided in the region of the burner axis (10). The additional burner nozzles (23) can be supplied via a separate fuel conduit (24).

In a gas turbine combustion chamber having an annular combustion space, the combustion chamber inlet is equipped with a plurality of burners, which are uniformly distributed in the peripheral direction and are fastened to a front plate. Scavenged Helmholtz resonators (21) consisting of supply tube (51), resonance volume (50) and damping tube (52) are arranged in the region of the burners. The damping tubes (52) are designed so as to be exchangeable, for which purpose the walls of the combustion space are provided with a manhole.

To minimize the NO.sub.x emissions by means of water in the combustion of a fuel, without incurring the risk of higher CO emissions arising instead, the sensitive ignition zones of a burner (A) are penetrated by compact water jets (11) (solid jets) at the point where a freshly fed fuel/air mixture is continuously ignited anew, in such a way that these zones are not disturbed. In this way, instabilities, flame pulsations and/or poor burn-out, which are responsible for a rapid increase in CO emissions during combustion, are prevented. In the interior of the flame, the water jets (11) then burst open and the water is distributed exactly where it counteracts the NO.sub.x emissions.
