A common coexistence timer can be implemented on collocated or proximate wireless radio devices so that timing information associated with scheduled communications of each of the wireless radio devices is communicated with a common time reference. The coexistence timer provides the common time reference for the wireless radio devices. A transmitting wireless radio device can calculate a difference time associated with the timing information of a scheduled communication and can provide the difference time to a receiving wireless radio device. The receiving wireless radio device can convert the difference time into a time format corresponding to the receiving wireless radio device's local time reference. This can minimize interference between the collocated or proximate wireless radio devices, thus minimizing performance degradation, packet collision, and interference. Moreover, this also can eliminate timing errors due to the wireless radio devices using different timers operating at different frequencies or being synchronized to different crystals.

Coexistence timer mechanism for wireless communication systems

The transmission range of a network communication device can be extended by enabling transition between legacy and non-legacy communication protocols. A communication device can receive a packet in a legacy packet format from a host device via a legacy network interface. In response to determining that the packet received via the legacy network interface is to be transmitted using one of a plurality of non-legacy communication protocols, a processing path within the communication device in accordance with which to process the packet for transmission using the non-legacy communication protocol is determined. The packet in the legacy packet format is reformatted to yield a target packet in a non-legacy packet format based, at least in part, on the non-legacy communication protocol. The target packet is provided to the destination network device in accordance with the non-legacy communication protocol.

Multi-communication mode packet routing mechanism for wireless communications systems

Wireless radio devices that communicate in close proximity to each other typically suffer from interference. Such interference between collocated wireless radio devices can lead to degradation in performance of either/both the wireless radio devices. Functionality can be implemented to schedule communications of the wireless radio devices so as to avoid interference between the two wireless radio devices. Coexistence messages can be exchanged, via a message based coexistence interface, between the wireless radio devices. By transmitting information such as received signal strength information, power, link information, scheduling information for a scheduling table, communication schedules, communication priorities, etc. in the coexistence message, interference between the wireless radio devices can be minimized.

Coexistence message processing mechanism for wireless devices

Unscheduled transmissions of one wireless network device while a collocated wireless network device has control of a communication medium can corrupt packets received by the collocated wireless network device. Interference between the collocated wireless network devices can lead to degradation in performance of either/both the wireless network devices. In a communication system comprising a first wireless network device collocated with a second wireless network device, the first wireless network device can be configured to transmit a coexistence message to the second wireless network device when the first wireless network device transmits a packet without control of the communication medium. On receiving the coexistence message indicating that the first wireless network device transmitted a packet without control of the communication medium, the second wireless network device can discard any packets received at the second wireless network device and can request retransmission of the discarded packets.

Detection of co-located interference in a multi-radio coexistence environment

A system may include a first circuit configured to generate a first clock having a first period of oscillation, and a second circuit configured to generate a second clock having a second period of oscillation, where the difference (&#x394;T) between the first period of oscillation and the second period of oscillation remains within a specified limit even during variations in temperature and/or during variations in the supply voltage. The system may further include a control circuit, which may receive the first clock and the second clock, and adjust, according to &#x394;T, a first target parameter corresponding to a first number of cycles of the first clock, when a current cycle count of the second clock reaches a second target parameter corresponding to a second number of cycles of the second clock. The control circuit may also adjust, according to &#x394;T, the second target parameter when the current cycle count of the second clock reaches the second target parameter, and generate, based on counted cycles of the second clock, an output clock having an output period higher than the first period and the second period.
