A coating composition which comprises a dispersion which is a melt blended product of one or more olefinic base polymers; one or more dispersants; one or more compatibilizers; water; and optionally base; wherein the dispersion exhibits an average volume mean particle size diameter of less than or equal to 2 microns, a solids content of equal to or less than 70 wt %, and a pH of 8 or greater; one or more rheology modifiers; and optionally one or more neutralizing agents is provided. An article coated with the coating composition and a method of making the coated article are also provided.

The present disclosure provides a process. In an embodiment, the process includes forming an aqueous matte coating composition including A1) beads of a first acrylic polymer having an average particle diameter from 0.1 μm to 2 μm; A2) beads of a second acrylic polymer having an average particle diameter from 0.5 μm to 30 μm; B) an acrylic polymer binder; C) from 0.15 wt % to 2.5 wt % of a slip additive; D) from 0.10 wt % to 0.30 wt % of a defoaming agent; E) from 0.8 wt % to 1.5 wt % of a rheology modifier; and F) from 0.01 wt % to 0.1 wt % of at least one wetting agent. The aqueous matte coating composition is applied to a substrate and then dried to form a coating on the substrate.

The present disclosure provides a process. The process includes (i) melt blending, in an extruder, (a) a polyolefin phase and (b) an aqueous phase in the presence of (c) at least one dispersant selected from an acrylic dispersant, a poloxamer dispersant, and combinations thereof; (ii) producing an interfacial tension from 0.1 dynes/cm to 25 dynes/cm; (iii) forming a polyolefin aqueous dispersion having from 25 wt % to 90 wt % solids content of dispersion; and (iv) removing the water from the polyolefin aqueous dispersion to form a powder. The invention provides an improved appearance, glossy, autodepositing coating composition that maintains its desirable properties such as moisture barrier properties, although it is still able to deliver a glossy finish. The glossy composition is accomplished by narrowing the molecular weight distribution and the molecular weight of an autodepositing epoxy dispersion coating by adding a chain transfer agent. The chain transfer agent is a thiol-containing compound made from an epoxy resin mixed with at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer polymerized through a polymerization process, a curing agent, and a starter composition of peroxide, FeF3, and hydrofluoric acid.
