An imaging apparatus that records, on a recording medium, a moving image captured using a solid-state imaging device as stream data, is disclosed. The apparatus includes: an image encoding section that encodes data of the captured moving image with a unit of an image group being a sequence of images of a fixed number of frames; an input detection section that detects a recording stop request to stop recording of the stream data including the moving image data being an encoding result of the image encoding section onto the recording medium; and a recording control section that controls a recording operation of the stream data onto the recording medium such that, when the recording stop request is detected by the input detection section, the image group located immediately before the image group including an image captured at the time of detection is the last image group.

An extraction sectionextracts one picture from each GOP. A number-of-pixels conversion sectionreduces the amount of information of the extracted picture by thinning out pixels. A static-image compression sectionencodes the picture whose amount of information has been reduced by a JPEG technique. A microcomputerassociates the encoded picture with the GOP from which the picture has been extracted and controls recording of the picture associated with the GOP onto a diskon which the moving image is to be recorded. An apparatus and method for generating a clock signal phase-locked to a horizontal synchronization signal of a digital video signal in which noise superposed on the horizontal synchronization signal is eliminated or reduced. To eliminate or reduce such noise, a noise suppressing device located prior to a phase comparator may be utilized. Such noise suppressing block may include a slice circuit and/or a spike removing circuit.
